I have discovered a bad oil leak from my newly fitted engine.

Had a look and its coming from the timing chain tensioner on the DS behind the alternator

Looks like i can get a spanner onto it but i dont want to tighten it in case i thighten the tension on the chain too?

Can anybody help me??

Its spring loaded inside, you torque the guts and then fit a cap to the outside. there is a seal between the block and body. Is it fitted, the outer cap has the seal.

Looking at it it looks like a nut with an allen key head in the centre. Not sure if it should have anything more over it

Pretty sure it should have a cap over it of some sort.....The part with the hex...is it proud from the block?

Yes its definitely proud from the block. If it does have a cover can it just be tightened to stop the leak

If the seal is there too then I dont see why not as its the spring inside that does the tensioning combined with oil pressure. Im pretty sure there are two models of tensioner around, one with a large dome nut cover and one with a bolt type bolt to plug the hole. No pics of either im afraid :(

Under the cover nut with the Hex in it there is a sealing ring so you should check that it is in place

and if so you can nip it up, if it has been out and someone has forgotten to fit the sealing ring

then I have little hope of you getting it to seal. ;)

Yeah i know thats what i should do but it means them crawling all over my car again and i dont want that for fear of them scratching it etc

Im going to give it a go myself first. The sealing ring, is it a washer of some description or is it a rubber o ring type thing??
