Up Until 7/8 minutes ago i was under the impreesion my 2.0ltr 1992yr 190E was carb fed, but i have just had a look in the Haynes manual and the picture of the airbox in there is different to mine, but the pic of the fuel injection airbox looks just like the one on the car??? Is my car injection or Carb, Also i have read somewhere that my engine is 105bhp, but have always felt it must be more powerful mainly because i have got 120mph out of it(on a private road) and the top speed of the 105bhp carb model is 116mph.... Can anyone clarify whats actually under my hood please. wiki and tech sites haven't helped it by having different information too. Edited by Sonner36, Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:11 pm.

The 190E is fuel injected. The E stands for 'Einspritzung' which is German for injection. Cars with carbs are the 190. without the E. I think the 2.0l 190e's have around 122bhp. Edited by stwat, Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:21 pm.

SWEET a whole 122bhp, thats about what it felt like. Well thats made my day as my car just gained 17bhp So are there any effective ways of cheaply tuning the engine for more power! other than giving it a badly needed service??? can the timing chain be altered or a second hand cossie head bolted on??? Or the compression ratio be upped??? I have never tuned a car in my life, it probably shows too. What about little things like silicon leads or whatever they are called, and aftermarket panel filters??? Or Nitrous??? nah just joking about that last one Cheers again Guys P.S. just realised i post this in the wrong section also Sorry Edited by Sonner36, Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:29 pm.

Just to throw a 'Spanner in the works', my 190 carb had a 190E badge on the boot!!!! Carb engines have a round air filter housing , doubles up as a frying pan!!!!

To answer your question.... No. You could do the obvious; a good maintenance schedule, free flowing exhaust, different air filter and so on, but you won't ever see massive gains. 16v heads won't bolt on, compression ratio will cost a fortune to change and no really worth it. The best things you could do are a) buy a 16v from the start or b) change the ignition. Either take it to Bogg Bros for ITBs and multi-carb setup or do a custom EFI setup. |

How about sports camshafts? Dunno about 2.0 8v Injected models, but carb models have fantastic pulling power at low rpm, but run our of breath quickly from about 4000rpm onwards. I'd gladly trade a bit of low-end power for little more high-end grunt. Would a sports camshaft that increased the lift and prolonged the duration a little result in a significant boost around the 3000 to 5000rpm rev range? More importantly - has anyone here done it? |

If you did it yourself, how much did you pay and where did you get it from? |

Not sure which gaiter you're referring to (I assume the air intake hose?) - but everything is original, I'm afraid. The car's just done 70,000km so most of the components are like brand new. |

I'm guessing he means the leather gaiter around the gearknob in your avatar.

Oh... Well, you can't see it in the picture but there's an inch-long tear on the other side. So it's not brand new either
