Change the air filter if you haven't already and take it for an 'Italian' tune up (good high revving blast) before the test.

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

A big blast at high revs, blow the carbon build up out of the exhaust.

A bit of shop bought veg mixed in it should help too but a blast normally sorts it.

If you suspect its burning a little oil then stick a bit of thicker engine oil in it. You dont need to change the lot. Just drop a litre out and stick a litre of thicker stuff in. It stops it getting around the valve stem seals and into the cylinders. I use 20w50 in my old timer.
