Hi all, Excuse any novice vocabulary or questions. The 190 was the car of my dreams in the 80s but I could never afford one. I now hope my time has come! A friend of mine bought a Mark I Ford Cortina (his dream car) and has done it up over the last year and re-kindled my desire to buy and restore a 190. I neither have his skill nor spare time and searching the internet have noticed there are many websites dedicated to re-building old Fords and many suppliers of parts, but very little info for maintaining/restoring and buying parts/trim for the 190. I'd be looking to restore the interior and bodywork. Also, I'd imagine an engine rebuild would be required together with a new braking system and suspension work. I'd be looking to upgrade the engine during the rebuild - not to boy racer spec but to hopefully achieve something in the following range: - Top speed 125-130mph - Comfortable cruising at 80 -90mph on 4 to 5 hour motorway journeys - Economy at 80 mph around 35mpg, and economy driving slowly and carefully around town of close to 30 mpg - Acceleration 0-60 of around 8 to 9 seconds I appreciate that this is the kind of performance/economy you get on a modern day 2 litre car but wondered if any of you had suggestions and advice on how I could get close to this with a 190 and where I can look for parts, trim and engine specialists. Thanks and great to have found a dedicated W201 website! |

welcome i would think a 190 2.6 would be very close to what your looking for, there really excellent motorway cruisers and within your top speed range, the 0 to 60 time is very reasonable considering there age about 8.5 seconds, youl find the forum very usefull friendly and a good source for parts, you can still get most of the parts youl need from mercedes benz or other outlets ie europarts or gsf even breakers yards have some bargains plus theres always ebay, good luck |

Longest build time in history?

I'm in Zone 1, Angel, A 190 in the making (150 miles away admittedly!) but i've been around these cars for a while, if you fancy a pint, give me a call. To be completely honest, any one from the range of engines and year would be right up your street. Do some digging into the VERY old threads, look at some cars and see what you think you might like. There is a lot that you can do with these cars, engine wise, body work wise etc, choose a style and go for it. I promise you, you've signed up already, you wont be leaving any time soon.
