hello folks. i have been thinking about this for a while now.and from what I read,i can't get any where. Since the mechanical Parts are Interchangeable between the W124 and the W201, what will prevent such a Project to happen. if a 4matic w124 is available to take Every part needed from. the transfer case looks fairly small and if the Problem is the front wheel drive axel,i don't think getting the 124's one will be very hard to use . what do you think?? |

4 Matic system parts are expensive and rare. Honestly , clear your mind and look at a Hi Lux 4x4 for when you need to cross rocks

I've no doubt it's doable provided you base car is a 2.6 or you use a a M103. Just doubt there's really any point or great benefits to be had unless towing or snowy conditions. |

I think the only benefit you'd get with the 4matic on say even a 300bhp 190 would be better off the line initial traction. Iirc the 4 matic is not a full time 4X4 system and the 190 particulary a 16V is an excellent chassis so what 4matic would bring I fail to see other than what I already mentioned in my first post and added front axle weight. Only my opinion but I'd be mmore interested & willling to spend time and money elsewhere on a 190. Edit: Having said the above, I certainly would'nt discourage somebody if they were hell bent on carying the conversation, it would be very very interesting.

Maybe I have'nt. Just for me personally I don't see the advantages of the 4matic especially in a 190 never mind the work involved, each to there own & all that

the 4 matic from a 124 is doable but not really worth it as the system is not reliable and most of the 4matic's of that era are now running just the rear wheels. |

Longest build time in history?

Sorry mate, you are not the first to think of this, it was discussed at length on the very first forum and had been toying with the idea since i first came into contact with 190s. From discussions with independents with 190 racing team experience and a lot of experience with the 4matic system, it is not strong enough, and too heavy to warrant trying from what i can gather. But if you think you can make it work, DO IT!!!! |
