Just joined up as i bought a 1.8 1992 190E 3 days ago.
Had put my '76 1200 beetle into storage and went looking for a cheap temp. Ended up coming back with a bloody merc...and i love it!!!
Seemed a bargain at £700
116k on the clock but runs soo well. Can't find any body rust on it. Got lists and lists of recently replaced/repaired parts...so im chuffed :)
Hope i can learn a few tips and tricks from everyone here when i start getting problems (touch wood, i wont) :$

Hello and welcome :)

Very nice 190 at a very good price B) I will warn you though that they are seriously addictive cars to own. :D

You will find all the info you need on here and anything you can't find, just ask as there is a wealth of knowledge on this site with many members more than willing to help :)

Post some pics of the Beetle too mate. I was heavilly into my VW's before i got bitten by the Merc bug B)

Oh and 116000 on the clock means it's only just run in ;)

Not sold yet! But for sale.
Didn't spend that much actually, bought for £1800 (pics are decieving but it was in one piece when bought)
Garage stored all it's life as the original owner fell ill and it sat in his garage. im only the 3rd owner. genuine 40k on the clock!
paint job was £1000
one new wing
Few minor parts window seals, and various seal kits.
small amount of welding on suspension mounts
then a few accessories - £800 sound system £200 roof rack etc...
Probably more little bits that add up, like all the chrome and that.
Was extremely solid, just needed some aesthetic improvements.

Oh feck that is lovely

Most of my VW's have been more modern i have to say. I have had 2 T25 campers/day vans I had them for years and miss my last one massivly. It took me to Le Mans and back and didn't miss a beat B) . A MK1 polo, Mk 3 polo which was massivly abused when i got it but i restored it and it also ran faultlesly in all the time i owned it. Fantastic car. I also had a MK3 Golf GIT. The one everyone loves to hate and i went through 3 gearboxes with that one :o It just kept blowing them up lmao But i have to say, weak gearboxes aside, i did like it a lot with its aircon, pearl black paint massive alloys, lowered as fook and stupid sound system :D

So as you see most of mine have been modern(ish)

But i did bomb around in my mates Beetle for 6 months or so and loved every min of it. Said mate also had a lovely Type 34 Karmen Ghia Razor Edge. Now that was fooking lovely and the last one of the production line with an electric sunroof(aparently) That was also lowered massivly and handled very well indeed and wasn't that slow either as the engine had been played with somewhat. He sold that and moved on to a stunning 1987 911 3.2 Carrera convirtable B)

You simply cant beat the sound of a flat four VW B)
Or the sound of an air cooled flat six Porsche for that matter.

Nice little list there!!! Blowing up gearboxs? You remind me of my mate in our local VW club...porsche engine bug that's had a new gearbox more times than ive had hot dinners. ;) but i gotta say, it certainly goes!
And you have a lucky mate! I'd kill for a razor! Sounds great! Only ever seen one in the flesh at tatton park VW show and i fell in love!
I can't fault bugs, they sound so good, and you never get bored driving them! Especially if you keep them fitted with crossply tyres...never thought id find my self unintentionaly drifting a 1.2 beetle! So easy to control!
Best fun ive ever had with a car has to be the bug.
I had a 1.4 tsi golf for a year and i got bored...it was fast for a 1.4 (small turbo and supercharger as stock). But boring in comparison to the bug!
Also had a 1.8 toyota carina ecd. But that was just awful ^o)

Welcome along! Definitely a bargain there, my second 190 was a last minute £700 ebay purchase, best buy I ever made!

I remember seeing that one on ebay recently, was it in the North East somewhere?

As the other lads have commented, beware, one 190 can easily lead to another! (on my 3rd now...) And I don't think I've known a car with a better heater to cope with our rotten British winters.

Yeh, thats the one, listed on the bay for £995 in the North East.
Im preparing myself for more. Luckily im only 19 and the insurance on this 1.8 cost me £1880 :o . So i won't be rushing out for another just yet! :D

WHOA!
Im in love!
It was a fantastic car. He had it repainted and when it was stripped it was found to be totally solid and rust free. It had obviously been restored in the past to a very high standard. It was just the paint letting it down.

I got to drive it a fair bit and as i said, the amount of people that would stop in their tracks and watch it go past used to make me laugh  It drove so well for a 40 odd year old car too. Everything worked perfectly including the electric sunroof B) Even the heater was fantastic and roasty hot

He kept it a few years then sold it for very good money to a bloke from Belgium i think it was. He travelled over by coach with two mates and they drove it all the way back home!!

I wish i had more pictures of it. Il ask my mate if he can send me some.

Yeh, the heater sure are toasty...especially if it's the same system as the bugs and campers.
Would be great to see some more pics ;)
