Nick - i had not thought of getting classic car insurance - i know it will depend on the car, but what sort of agreed value should i be looking at? How will insuring it as a classic differ from 'normal' insurance?

The car is already SORN so thats not a problem. Hopefully the rust will not be too bad, there are a couple of small spots but fingers crossed its not too bad underneath.

No idea on a local MB specialist in this area - any recommendations would be appreciated should anyone know of someone locally?! I doubt very much that i could ever afford to take it to MB dealer so will be looking for someone with knowledge of these cars with reasonable rates - if such a thing exists!

Cheers,

Ian

Right , the process is like this ....

1. Insurance

2. Book it in for an MOT ( that allows you to drive it to the MOT station ) then get it passed

3. With Insurance and the new MOT certificate you can now get it taxed .

Hello and welcome, Ian. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad mate.

I wish you all the luck in getting the car back on the road.

Just one thing to mention though, be very careful if you use jump leads as the 190's have an OVP(Over Voltage Protection)relay which more often than not will either blow the fuse on the top or will get damaged internally when jump starting the cars with cables or boosters. Always make sure you switch the headlights on before using jumper cables or boosters as this helps to absorb the initial power surge away from the OVP.

The OVP relay and it's fuse/fuses is well worth checking before you try and start the car. Do a search for OVP relay and you will find lots of info about it.

That's why i only use a booster pack as it's only pushing 12V through the system! If jumping off a running engine you're pushing 14-16V through it!! ;)

Better still - remove the battery and charge it ;)

If it's more than a few years old, just replace it - not worth the hassle :)
