Hi Guys, I've been lurking for a while and reading up on as much technical stuff as I can. I'm new to Merecedes and new to "Classic Car" stuff and getting my hands dirty About 2 weeks ago I took the plunge and purchased my first Merc (1993 190e Auto 1.8L with 117,000) miles as my friend decided he was moving his on. It had sat up for over a year underneath his carport. It started first time with the help of a booster pack and within 3 days it had a new MOT which was pretty impressive I though. It has come with the chrome wheel arch covers, which hides bubbles. Their is also some bubbling around the ariel, which is broke. I'll get a new one soon. I have yet to use it as my everyday car which was the plan. However I have slightly lost the love for it, I'm sure I'll come round. The reason being mainly the fuel consumption and the damp I run out of patience easily, probably not wise when owning such a car.I stuck £20 worth petrol in her (118 pence per litre), she was sitting with the red light on. The 20 quid took here past the first white marker on the fuel dial. After 70 mile the red light is back on. I have driven here pretty easy. With regards to the damp, I have read in previous posts about the boot trays, boot key lock seal and the pipes at the side of the sunroof. So I checked the boot trays and everything seems fine. I have also cleared the drains in the engine compartment. However the rear offside passenger seat belt is soaking wet when I pull it on out(the seats are perfectly dry. I hope this is due to the drains on either side of the sunroof as previously described. However not being a petrol head yet, I have no idea on how to fix this and where to start looking. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I have added a 2 pics that I took a few weeks ago, these are poor as the car is shadowed by trees. I have taken more, but have left my camera in the wife's car. I have since taken the AA badge off I'm located in N.Ireland hence the plates.![]() ![]() |

welcome along your car looks good and dont be ashamed of the chrome arches they cover rust well but you will need to take them off and have a good look see what might be lurking you might be able to sort the damp by taking the vent cover off and using some black silicone sealer on the rubber it does break down over time it sorted me last car out if no rust under parcel shelf you should be fine she sounds ok to a little heavy on the juice but a good service if its been sat for a year should help my 2ltr auto gets me 350 miles from a 55ltr tank by before i usually fill up and that includes about 10-15 in the red mostly motorway at 65-70 round town i have had as low as 250miles doing loads of start stop driving they aint the most fuel efficient cars but lovely cruisers 3 hour drive and not realising it and actually not wanting to get out your just so comfy lol |

My first 2.0 auto came with a bootfull of water , and once it was drained and dried and the ingress point fixed it was fine . A service does wonders for fuel consumption . Jeremy |

Hi all, Many thanks for the very warm welcome and the very useful advice I'll get that grill sprayed at the weekend and post the pictures. Thank you p1Rate for the suggestion. I'll also definetly get those vents off and seal them, thanks alan. I intend to be an active member, stealing all your advice and on my part I promise to keep you updated with pictures. I know very little about the cars but I'm looking forward to learing Just want everything to be perfect, and I suppose it can't really be with a 17 year old car. Thanks again. |

Hi Guz, Is your 190 an LE? It looks exactly like mine (apart from the colour, mine is Azure Blue) and is a 1993 so could have been among the last of the 190's produced. Simon |
