As many of you know, I have a 1.8-litre 190E.
The time has come for new Ignition bits (Distributor Cap, Rotor Arm, HT Leads, Spark Plugs).

I've gone for Bosch everything, and already bought the Dizzy Cap & Rotor Arm.
Bosch HT Leads aren't with me yet, but I've sourced them (cheers Will).
Decided that I definitely want Bosch plugs.

The Bosch Online Catalogue states that my car should use HR7DC (Resistor-type) plugs:

The sticker on the slam panel of my car tells me to use H7DC0 (Non-Resistor-type) plugs:

However, whilst googling around trying to find Bosch plugs for sale, I stumbled upon this thread from Benzworld.
It states;
The EPC (electronic parts catalog from mercedes) indicates H7DC (for high compression, engines until 91) or H8DC (for low compression, engines since 91).
This rang true with what somebody else with EPC access has told me.

As all 1.8-litre engines are 1991-onwards, I guessed that mine would have low compression and run best on H8DC plugs, so I've ordered a set of 4 from The Green Spark Plug Company.
They aren't here yet, but if I've made an error I'll go back and order the right ones.

As an aside, just so we're clear;
The HT Leads in the 190E have resistance built-in, hence using Resistor-type plugs would only serve to weaken the spark - correct?

Yours, confused of London.

doesnt matter if the resistance is in the lead or the plug, just so long as its not in both or it will affect the ecu bud

Sorry to but in Neil.

Nick, how can you tell if the leads or spark plugs have resisters in them?

I have Magnecor KV85 (8.5mm reds) and Denso iridium plugs but I can't fined out which has the resister.

Ah so the Magnecor leads don't?
I do seem to remember that you had the sane set up, just wasn't sure.

Thanks for the rapid reply!

Cant you just measure the resistance with a multimeter

No, the leads conductors are coiled to be inductive which means they provide a small amount of resistance to flow at the moment the coil fires without having a fixed resistance. Used in conjunction with resistor plugs they create a fatter spark (inductive resistive circuit) and do not add to the total resistance of the circuit.

H7DCO just like it says on the slam panel.
The sticker was made at the same time as the car i.e after 1991. ;)

I found it nigh on impossible to get the correct plugs for my valver. I ordered the non resister plugs from ECP and got sent bloody resister ones. Took them back only to be told all of their plugs are the resister type. I found the same at GSF so ended up buying then from the dealer. They were under £2 each.

They are however champion as the dealer told me they could no longer get the Bosch non resister type, just like ECP and GSF, and not to everyone's likes. Some claim bad running when using them but i find my car runs much better with them fitted and they are still working great after over a years usage.

Oi, I resemble that remark!
Haven't you got some grotty old Ford heap to be bodging?

My totally incorrect plugs arrived today. I will order the correct ones, from the same supplier, on Monday.
The Green Spark Plug Company appear to specialise in all that awkward old sh!t, perhaps you 16v boys should be ordering from them... :D

Managed to track down some H7DCO plugs from the Green Spark Plug Co at £2.50 after the usual run around everywhere else.

Why is it that every where you go they tell you you need plugs with resistors in FFS!

Made sure I got a few sets this time.
