:D Just thought i would say a quick hi, I have just picked up a 190e 1.8 auto 1993, the old girl is a bit rough around the edges at the mo but i intend to bring her up to the mark over the next couple of years, i want to do most of the work myself & apart from an oil & filter change it looks like i will be doing the ball joints very very soon, i didn'tget any service history so i will also be working on trying to search back to rebuild it, any way i already have to thank you guys on the ball joint tip(the pics look painfull) & will look out for when your getting a meet together ,

Cheers,
Mark

It looks like you have taken plenty of time to get your first 190.

Enjoy it

well ball joints have been replaced, got mb of milton keynes to fit them, all was good untill i got under the car today to fit the tie bars and noticed that the notches in the ball joints don't line up with the hole in the arm(do i need to concern myself with this?) changed pads aswell and changing brake fluid in the morning, found a couple of bits of rust on the near side rear jacking point and on the drivers door shut just above the sill, don't ask me how i missed these when i brought it, also need a middle box on the exaust, have been taking photos and will sit down and get them on soon, next on the list after the brake fluid will be to strip and re-paint the rocker cover and air filter lid degrease the engine bay- replace the rocker cover seal-oil change- tranyoil/filter then sort this bloody rust out before it eats the car, oh had a squeak coming from the steering collum and found another tip on the site that got rid of it in as long as it took to get a can of wd40 out of my van.

Yes, if you see a balljoint stripped the top of the body has a slot and not a circular hole for the peg which mounts to the upright which implies that the slot has to face a certain way hence the cutout and the holes in the wishbone. How far off are we talking?

I always fit them with the notch and hole aligned but someone may know differently.

if you look at the hole in the arm being 12 o'clock the nothch in the ball joint is at 10 to 12
