I had trouble with the backbox rubber mounts last night, they come off whilst driving. After a temporary fix on the road at night, I got up this morning to fix on a set of new rubber mounts and was greeted with this:

First thought, sh*t!! did I hit a brass on my way home and drag her by her hair, so I looked around for any other evidence. Couldn't see any, pulled on the 'hair' and loads of clumps of it was compacted up the pipe

Is this lining in the backbox itself? is my backbox fooked?

That's the catalytic converter filling . Horrible stuff to get onto your skin , just pull it out into a bag . Use gloves .

Shrekky is right!
It might bung your exhaust up while it is coming out, but if you get most of it out and and the rest of the exhaust is in good condtion I wouldn't worrie about it.

Type exhaust baffles into google and you will see on image of a exhast box cut open, with pipes inside with holes in them, the padding goes in between them.

If the fillings come out then it means the inside of the back box has collapsed, usually caused by short runs!!

Fit a new one and i think you'll find performance will be better!! ;)

Yep it's the back box damping matierial, don't worry about it,

it happened to mine about four years ago, just pulled it all out and carried on driving for another two years.

In the meantime I have had a 'PowerFlow SS system' fitted so I am hoping it will now last the rest of my life. ;)
