Greetings.
My car is undergoing a small restoration. The rear box starting from Cat is leaking from the previous weld.
Are there any other options (including aftermarket) that can improve performance along the way?
thanks,
Jack

Where are you based? The powerflow agents below give a healthy discount on a full custom built stainless exhaust.

We travelled up from Cornwall to get one fitted to Nicks 2.5-16.

honestly, id heard good things about kingswinford from other members but their service must have gone downhill cos they did a real hatchet job on my car.

Its had a terrible rattle since the day they fitted the exhaust. Ive had to take it back to them twice and once they changed a box which ended up adding another rattle. they changed it again and because original rattle was still there claimed it was from my engine...even though first time id ever heard it was first time i fired it up with their new zorst.

Took it to another independent powerflow specialist who mainly does old beamers (e30 m3's etc) and they said that the quality of welds was terrible, then pipe was too small a diameter for this car, and they had bodged a weld between the larger diameter old downpipe and the smaller new stainless pipe...which they shouldnt have welded anyway a proper join should've been fabricated.

Its been an ongoing thing thats involved consulatation with my mechanic, crewe engines who rebuilt the motor, crackley garage (other powerflow place) and kingswinford themselves...

the general concencus of everyone apart from kingswinford is that they bodged the job and wont take responsibility cos the car is like a dream in every other way and ive replaced MANY other things that could be causing the rattle (heat shields, reconned the whole propshaft, undertray mounts, repaired a very minor crack in the undertray, added heat-proof sound deadening material between parts and the chassis to prevent any rattles AND took the car for a full examination engine wise with stethoscopes listening for internal noises from the engine).

to put it simply i gave them the benefit of the doubt and they havent owned up to not doing their job properly. its cost me a lot of money and time just to prove what i already knew...that the exhaust was causing the rattle and its been driving me insane for over a year.

in the end i think im just going to shell out for a whole new exhaust and refuse to pay until i hear it running and im satisfied theres no noise emanating from it that shouldnt be there, and the other powerflow garage have offered to do this at half price to make up for the job that was done by another powerflow agent. and they've already done some remedial work to try and sort out the current exhaust completely free of charge.

So if i was going to recommend someone to do a powerflow, id go to Crackley Garage in kenilworth, bit more expensive, but they showed me exhausts they done running on a couple of customer cars and they quality of the job they do seems to be impressive.

Wow, i've not been there in a while but not good to hear this. However there are many successful stories about them, including my own (i set up the discount), my dads, Dave_irl and a host of others i can't remember.

On the other hand, if you have a DTM festish then i have a full 2.5-16 exhaust for sale, second hand and a fair few photos. facebook has been where i was storing pictures but now they have changed how you view pictures its not possible to hotlink to them on here.

I'll see if i can find some way to get them back on hard drive.

Jack because you mentioned manifold, I would advice you not to touch manifold and downpipes as it is difficult a good place for doing a propper job.
If your downpipes are rot/cracked the have some made that will be an exact copy of the original ones.
From the CAT backwards the guys above have better info than I have.

to be honest the fellows working there seem to change a lot as every time i went i got somebody new and they told me none of them had ever done a 190e. I suppose with a turnover of staff like that things are bound to go downhill. They also did things i didnt authorize like cutting my bumper to fit bigger exhaust tips than the ones i had selected which would have looked fine underneath the bumper with no cutting as they were smaller.

They were very dismissive and I've honestly never been ignored as much at a mechanic etc as I was here, anything to do with the spec of the system I had to ask continuously. If I hadnt opened my mouth a few times they would've been happy to just fit whatever they felt like with no consultation whatsoever.

That is awful. Im really sorry to hear you've had such a crap time with them.

I was very lucky as when I had mine done, it was fitted by an Ex-South African Touring car exhaust fitter. He'd worked the last 6-7 years fitting and designing every exhaust for the grid as it was a standard item. He was brilliant - and so was Andy the Owner/Boss man.

I had to have the tip replaced twice (same tip) but spoke to the UK CEO of Powerflow at ASI a couple of years ago and it was a bad batch from Thailand for that particular one and they were more than accommodating for anything that went wrong.

I am in Hong Kong. However, I will email them to see if they can offer any system that's already custom fit.
I will leave the manifold untouched. However, the whole downpipe/cat and rear box had rusted out. There were previous welding done; but it prob won't hold for another year..
