Hello everyone - Just joined and need some advice on what to go for. I originally wanted to buy a 190 2.5 16v cosworth, but after seeing smiffys 2.6 on here, I quite fancy that too. I have always been a big fan of the older German & Swedish cars and currently own a Saab 9-3 convertible Viggen.
Going back about 7 years I made the mistake of selling a beautiful white 190 2.6 with cosworth body kit & cream leather. "before" . At the time I couldn't afford to keep it as a weekend car, but now funds permit an addition to the family ;) http://img200.imageshack.us/content_round.php?page=done&l=img200/7408/img0542ta.jpg

I have seen wheeler dealer several times and am hooked (Even if Mike Brewer winds me up sometimes! :B )
Going back a couple of years I had a chance to buy 2 cars. One of which was the 190 Cosworth Mosselman Turbo (seen pictured outside the museum). The other car, which I test drove and kick myself for not buying is The King of Constantine's blue cosworth :'( What an idiot, eh?

So, as you see I have a small dilemma - Any advice will be very welcome!

Best regards

Simon

Hello & welcome. You'll get plenty of advice and info here.

First off no 190 needs the extra star stuck onto it's grille as per your photo

As for buying a 16V or a 2.6 it really depends on what you want. I and some other members here would say the best alround model is a 2.6 Auto. having said that I sold my 2.6 and kept the 2.5-16!

The King Constantine's car is now belong to a member here (which I nearly bid for on eBay back in 2006 due to the specification & colour). I understand it needed a bit of work, then again most do. It was also an auto which is not everbodies first choice for a 2.5-16 but I reckon the auto makes it a better day to day car, each to their own. Having said that I'd prefer to have a good condition auto rather than a poor condition manual.

The only other thing I'll say is take your time buying and drive as many as you can both 16V's & 2.6's.

Hello - Thanks for the warm welcome. You are right about the second star Johnboy Mac - This was added by the new owner, I saw the car by luck one day and had to take a photo.

I'm going to take a look at a 2.3 16 on Saturday - Its up for £3750 on Piston Heads and its just around the corner from me. Not sure that is a good price or not as the drivers seat requires replacing/ re-upholstering. I'm a bit annoyed that I missed out on a silver 2.5 16 on eBay last week - It went for £2529!!!! Sods law, but I couldn't view before end of auction and didn't want to buy without checking the all important rust issues.

What do you guys reckon I should pay for this one on piston Heads? (Assuming everything else looks ok) - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2225558.htm

welcome to the forum

i dont know much about 2.5 16 or 2.3 16 so i cant comment on them.
I can comment on the 2.6 because i own a glass black one with a 16v kit with an autobox.

The 2.6 has been refered to here as the "gentlemans cosworth", well i am no gentleman,
It can cruise very nice and easily for a daily commuting vehicle and with a push of the pedal
you can be pushing 100mph + with ease and comfort. Also a very comfortable car when not driving.

Hope that helps.
