Hi, My name's Frank, and I'm a complusive car/project buyer. Between my dad and I, we have around 26 cars and projects, including 6 Mercedes(I've not got a 190E currently). My current MB project is an A-reg W123 280E, that i am turbocharging, and planning to enter in this years Practical Peformance Car Maganzine's £999 Challenge. (I will post a link to my build thread, if I'm allowed to post links to other forums?) I have an alterior motive for joining the forum at the minute... I've just picked up a 190E Cosworth gearbox(along with clutch, flywheel, starter, and gearlever), to fit into it. My only headache now is, to find an engine back plate, for the box to bolt to, that i can then adapt to the back of my M110 engine. Does anyone know if any of the range of 190E engines has a bolt-on back plate, that is the same bellhousing pattern as the Cosworth? I know the cosworth's is cast into the block, but i just wondered if any of the other engine might be able to donate a back plate. Cheers for any help, Frank. |

Well, there's not much to show as regards building, I started to the "Cunning Plan", last year, but i realised i wouldn't be able to get it done for last year's challenge, so it got mothballed, while i built a BMW 328i to enter. The 280E was bought originally as a parts car for my dad's 1982 200, for the princely sum of £50:shock:, because it had a broken front spring, but when I got it back, it was far too good to break up. I'm using a turbocharger off of a 3.0L Toyota Supra, and sorting the extra fuelling, using an ERL stand alone injector driver and 2 extra electronic injector that have come from a Turbo Technics Ford V6 conversion, and I'm cutting down a "chavtastic" intercooler that came from a local scrapyard for £2!! It may also get a Jaguar XJS LSD fitted(because i can't find a Mercedes 1, cheap enough), if it measures up ok, and i have time to do it before the challenge. I'm now dragging it back out to get on with building, so far I've spent an approx total of £650-700, and i now have 95% of the parts needed. Here's a link to my PPC forum build diary: http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=6743 Here's a couple of pics: This is the rough sketch i did, while being sat bored in my shop, I don't think that the spoiler or the ground effects will be fitted though... ![]() This is the car as bought and pretty much as it is now, but i have now got the front wings and doors sorted, all that's left are the rear arches. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
