a bit of a rant here but i have tried and failed to get hold of a tool to hold my gear selector in nutral so i can adust the cable in my mondeo and i cant find one, **insert swear word here**ing me off as ive caled ford and all they want to do is book it in and charge me a £80 to do it so i declined....like working on my own cars but like using the proper equipment (makes life easy).

now changing this to mercedes themed ive got tools in the past from mb and they were great, or brought on ebay ect but not needed anything since 2009. now i thought id see if these items i have are still available and NONE are from mb, or anything i want to get for that matter for suspension/engine work i have planned this year.

my question is have mb pulled tools from being able to be sold to joe bloggs or they run out off tools (be suprised if that was true)

just very annoyed as like i said above i like doing my own work, i enjoy it and dont pay garages to do anything apart from servicing and mot's unless i can help it.

wonder if anyone can shed any light as i saw last year a notice in my local garage about an EU regulation now that says manufactures dont have to provite info/surport ect to indipendant garages...wondered if that extended to people too???

The tool should have been supplied with the car, have a look in the spare wheel holder.

Longest build time in history?
I read your post this morning and randomly whilst looking for other things, cam across this part of the MB corperate website. Seems you're right.

I didn't realise that they also offer the general public to use their EPC, but obviously for a charge.

Plenty of free links around. ;)

well ive managed to find a way of getting ford special tools but it was a SOD to find! to be fair ford have been helpfully as my local dealership let me borrow their tools which is very kind of them and they dont have to do.

as for MB i dont know when this rule came in but its kinda caught me off guard and would explain why none of the part numbers on wis works on inchcape.

thanks for the offer andy, il get a list together and contact you about it :)

obviously you can buy certain things on ebay and companies like draper ect sell some tools but the real specialist stuff is mb only.
