hi there guys.
im looking at buying a 2.3 16 Cosworth but the only hold up ive got is the mileage.... its got 280,000!! its a real gamble i think for a 550 mile round trip. looked on vosa mot history check and it says heavy rear corrosion on chassis as advisory in 2010.... anyone have advice for me? oh and the mot is due this month...avoid or no?

Is it really worth travelling that far for what sounds like on of the poorer examples out there?

Heavy corrosion + 280k miles + less that a month's MOT would kill it for me.

Is this thread a windup? :D

Hello and welcome to the forum Chop, unless the car has had work done the rust will still be there also the mileage means the engine alone has had a lot of work. There would need to be a couple of inches of a history file to make it worth a look. :)

the seller has told me of a engine rebuild costing 1500, and also serviced up to 180k.....

Any car is worth a look imo but unless it's going for dirt cheap 550miles is a long trip for what sounds like a dog... :$

How much is it? Can you show us any pictures?

What about the last 100k, that answer alone would put me right off.

A car of that age and mileage requires proper maintenance look up the thread on 'Johnboys' 2.5-16 he's in the 180k mark. I also had previously a 2.5-16 with 170k and spent £1500 just making her run right. You deffo need history at that sort of mileage. :S

Not exactly a bargain at 1800 but that's not much money for a 16v. It's hard to judge from a few pictures as it looks quite nice. have we not seen this before though guys?

Considering how much money 16v's cost to put right I think you might be better off spending a bit more and buying one that's already sorted unless you're up for a full resto.

In my opinion buy the best you can afford saves some of the heartache later and bear in mind the cost of maintence if you can't do it yourself. :)
