Sold the W124 200T on Saturday night and now I have just got home having picked up mine and my dads new 300TD.

I never even got around to introducing the 200T to you guys in the whole 16 years of my dads ownership, although I know a couple of you had a look around it at one of the Ace Cafe meets :(

But hey all good things come to an end and we have a far far better car now imo :)

Enjoy pics of both. I have never driven a better 124 than the new 300TD B)

The 200T:

Very minty looking pre-facelift car that.

The 300 looks lovely too. I do like the seat fabric in the later 124's

I like them, as I think they are cheaply repairable and not expensively replaceable like the injectors :( And the engine bay of the 300 TD is mint :)

The carb is probably why we kept it so long as they simple don't stop you driving! Going to miss the 200 with it's smart colour combo and perfect condition lux interior but at the end of the day when it comes down to it it wasn't worth getting it well up to scratch for donkey speed transport at 20mpg so someone else is now enjoying some cheap motoring now :)

Cheers for all the kind comments btw guys, Rich you got a link to the one that went cheap?

I think a mercedes300td.co.uk forum is in order :D Or perhaps oldschoolmercdiesels.co.uk or something like that more generic so we can accomodate more than just the 300TD crowd :)

My dad baught the 200T in 1995 at 7 years old so we had it 16 years it was very well looked after but having been used little in recent years once the W210 :X came along circa 5 years ago it started to show its age in a way that was beyond economical repair, don't forget 200T's are cheap! I have no doubt it will be a good cheap runner for the new owner but in short apart from the engine, mint interior and rust free underside it felt tired in many respects. Not only that but why bother when you can get a rust free later 300TD that you can eat your dinner off that costs half the money to run at a cost less than the repair bill to make it equal condition?

Regardless though there is no doubt that the old girl will be missed :crying:

The new 300TD is so tight, its like a .... ;) Honestly I never knew these wagons could drive so well, my dad knew they could but I didn't. It handles just like a bigger longer 190 not like a wafty old barge the 200T did, but then I gues that is all thanks to all the new bits that the previous owner replaced. The guy we got it from is a mechanic in his 60's winding down his business slowly slowly and he specialises in mercs. There's something about having an old merc diesel engine under the bonnet again that assures me that I can take it literally anywhere anytime, no problem! Love that feeling :)

I'll get some pics up once it's sold lmao I haven't even got around to putting some pics of the 16v up yet

Yeah drove it back from Brentford went to view it last Sunday actually but didn't actually pick it up until yesterday. We wanted it but we also wanted to get rid of a car asap to make space as there was too many cars here. Luckily the 200T sold within a week! Didn't even advertise it other than a piece of paper in the window.

Does anyone want to buy a Peugeot 306 Cabrio? Going very cheap for what it is only 65k on the clock, it runs, drives and stops 100% spot on!

Does anyone know the law regarding passengers in the rear? Do they have to be under a certain age or anything?

As long as they are wearing their seatbelts you should be fine.

My attention was drawn once here in Geneva to the fact that my 2 sons (13 & 10) must wear the belts while seated at the rear.

Nice 300TD - same colour as my old 250TD. Nice MB-Tex, too

At some point you'll pull out the ignition key and the engine will keep running. Just pop the bonnet, reach down into the neat gap between the inlet manifold runners and you'll find a shutoff valve with a red lever

Ah yes I am already aware of the fact that the diesels some times won't switch off, cheers Nick.

You are probably the best person to ask here, do you happen to know if there are any age/weight restrictions as to who you can carry as passengers in the rear?

Sometimes the fuel shutoff just doesn't work. Then it starts working again... AFAIK there is a vacuum switch attached to the back of the ignition switch. The vacuum actuates the shutoff valve - or not, as the case may be

You can (and I have) start one of these cars, remove the battery and drive it away

AFAIK there are no age restriction for the rearmost seats. If you are up to about 5' 7" you'll fit in them OK. Any taller and your head hits the roof

spot on mate, there is a basic vacuum switch literally bolted to the side of the diesel ignition switch. It has a couple of vacuum lines, one of which runs to the shut off valve to stop the engine. Any problems with this vacuum line and it doesnt shut off.

The default state for these diesels is to continue to run until the fuel runs out, unless you force it off.

I seem to remember you had a shutoff issue a while back matth ? its often solved by revving it, which increases the vacuum and may be enough to force the valve closed.
