Engine temp?

Hi all i got 1992 1.8 sportline 190 and my engine temp is just below 80! just today it went above 80 and an amber light came on think engine water level? so i checked it and i put some coolant in and it seems ok at the mo! any idea's on why my water leveel went low?
I cant see a leak anywhere oh and my heaters are hot! and they wasnt before all this today????

Hi Gaz. It sounds like you had an air lock in the heater matrix that has cleared its self today as that would explain both the water suddenly going down and the sudden working heater.

Have you had any work done on the cooling system recently?

Yes few weeks ago! what is the idle temp?

The temp would have gone up a bit as the airlock traveled round the system. If it is OK now I wouldn't worry about it.

But keep an eye on the water level to see if it carries on going down.

Well i had a supra a few years ago and i joined a owners club and if you didnt have a twin turbo model and tuned up, they didnt ever help and sooo many ppl left the club :crying: !
Im on top at the mo, loving my 190, and i got a great owners club that wanna help and welcome you! Well it all seems ok now, i found out its got a summer thermostat so it only goes to a temp of 83!

Does the fan clutch kick in when it reaches 100? If it's not overheating I wouldn't worry about it. You may simply have a higher rated/winter thermostat fitted.

Change the thermostat and coolant. That will probably sort it out :)

I have already changed the coolant, however, which thermostat do you mean? :)
