Soon I will be allowed to drive the car again and I got a few questions. 1. What is the correct tyre pressure for my wheels front 205/50/16 rear 225/45/16 2. The car has done over 230k miles and I don't know when/if the head gasket has been done. I plan on doing it myself, what do I need and from where? Since there are no signs of HG needing to be done will the head need skimming? 3. The plastic cover in the boot offside is missing. When driving through rain water from the road gets lifted by the wheels and sprayed on the boot lid through the top of shock absorber mounting. The shocks have been done some time ago before me acquiring the car, have they left out anything like some rubber washers? 4. How good/bad are the SPAX VSX lowering kit? |

On the dashboard there is a odometer connected to the gearbox which as the car moves so does the odometer, it is now showing over 230,000 which means that the car has done over 230,000 miles. If you where confused by the K in the 230k then it stands for kilo which in turn means 1000 measures thus the 230k becomes 230,000. |

Does the tyre pressure not remain the same for the spec of the car regardless of the tyre/wheel size? So, if the correct tyre pressure was 32psi for a 185/65/15 tyre, then its still 32psi even if its a 225/45/16? Papa - I always followed whatever pressures were recommended on the label inside the petrol tank flap regardless of what wheels were on the car. Im not saying I am 100% right but I never had any problems. Stu |

That is exactly what I did so far, is just that due to the stupid recession I didn't want to waste any tyres or fuel. So far it seems to be fine, no uneven tyre wear but wanted to check with the after-market wheel gurus on perfection (if there was one). Thank you for your help. |

So many questions, I have some. Does your leg get shorter through lack of use and does this mean you may not be able to reach the pedals. In fact if you attempt to walk in a straight line do you in fact end up where you started by going around in a circle. I know what your thinking maybe it's the other leg the one that doesn't do anything in an auto car, but your wrong it's there for left foot braking and getting a slide on in the auto car.

No, the leg did not get any shorter nor longer for that matter and I do not walk in circles, it's zig-zag and rather like a duck. |

OK Papa, lets answer some questions for you! 1/ Tyre pressures will not vary too much between tyre sizes. The weight of the car is what sets the pressure as it maintains the shape of the sidewall. The tyres on nicks cossies are less pressure than the tyres on my e280. So go with the normal pressures on your car to start with then adjust according to wear (wear on outside of tyre tread means pressure too low and wear on the centre of the tread meant pressure too high.) 2/ If you are doing the head gasket for the first time at 230k then I would strongly suggest that you send the head away to have the valves reseated and the guides replaced along with the head truing. You will gain a lot of power back with this job done. As far as the gaskets are concerned, buy from Inchcape as the dealer ones are still the best! 3/ There should be a rubber on each side of the shock mounting hole at the rear. They should be tight against the metalwork to stop what you are describing. 4/ Spax kits are good although you may have a few visits to the dentist to replace fillings due to the firm ride. However the car will corner on rails! Hows that, hope it helps you decide. As far as number 2 is concerned, if it aint broke dont fix it! |

Thank you. Regarding the HG I totally see where you come from ''if it ain't broke don't fix it'', trouble is that I have a history of stuff letting me down at the same time as the cash flow stops, so from my point of view I'd rather have it done when I can afford it. |
