Just a couple of pics for now. I've not had chance to clean it properly yet but after 6 months of viewing CE's I've finally got one.

Mechanically fine other than a 'tight' spot when turning left. I'm suspecting ball joints at this stage.

176,000 miles but the body is so good. Only one small rust blister on one wheelarch.

Has not been used for a year so needs some 're-commissioning'.

To do list:

Full fluid change
Change thermostat
A/C service and convert to R134a
Wheels need a refurb
Tyres are perished but plenty of tread
Needs some work to the interior (wood is cracked).
Passenger window is slow
Clock does not work
Jumpy needle on speedo
Wiper is very slow

Spec

3.0 M103 engine
4 x electric windows
Electric sunroof
4 speed Auto
Nautical Blue
Grey Leather seats
Leather wheel and gear selector
Cruise Control
Electric Drivers seat
Diavia A/C
Fire Extinguisher
Toad alarm system

Love the way it drives. The engine and exhaust note are superb.

Thanks guys,

Compliments appreciated.

At this stage it's just a project but I can't wait to get started. Shame I have to go to work tomorrow.

Just great to have a car that appears to have never had any paint and does not need any still!

Congratulations Gary, looks like you got your dream spec CE!

Looks nice already, and I'm sure you'll have it mint in no time.

Looks like the wider sportline wheels on there as well, a nice bonus.

Saw this one initially on Autotrader. The location was miles from any train station so had to wait until I could get a lift before viewing/buying. I looked at lots of cars between £3,000-£4,000 which were all pretty tired. This one was less than half the lower figure but was by far the best car. It does need some tlc but I have so much of my budget left that I'm hopeful of getting everything done well within it.

Can't say how pleased I am with this car as it's so original. Nothing has been altered. Even the original stereo remains :lol:

It is just about my dream spec and I wanted something I could improve so it ticks every box.

Gary :driver:

Thanks very much.

Addictive isn't the word. I'm just in love with this car (just don't tell anyone that though ;) ).

This one needs quite a bit of tlc but the body is pretty amazing for a 21 year old car. One rust scab about the size of a 5p on one wheel arch but aside from a few partking dings its perfect with no evidence of any new paint. The whole car had faded slightly but it's the same over the whole car and I love the patina.

I now have to spend the entire weekend without it :crying: but it's in the hands of an MB specialist who is a huge 124 fan. He has reported that it needs new rear discs, new washers jets, new steering damper, new polybelt, new wipers on headlights and a few bits of trim. I was well pleased to be honest. It's having a full fluid change and I'll get it back Monday. I can't wait!

Thanks again.

Gary

Those are just very minor bits Gary. None of them are too expensive.

But I've already spent nearly £2K on mine (not including the purchase price!) and there's still some more to come....and that's before the car even gets resprayed and new wings on it! Also doesn't include the money I have tied up in the refurb'd wheels that I have ready for it.

That is lovely!

It's easy to spend money on these cars without even doing much. These coupe's are all about presentation and luxury and a tatty one just looks wrong. Mine has only one rust scab which I can do myself (as it's out of sight). In addition to the jobs suggested by the specialist he is doing a full fluid/filter change and as a starter point I am looking to get the following:-

New rear bumper insert
Have accident damage repaired on drivers door (below sacco panel)
Have drivers door re-hung as it has dropped a few mm
Complete Air Con overhall
Remove small dent in n/s rear wing
Smart repair to remove holes in console left by car phone
New electric aerial
Have piping on armrest fixed
New binacle (clock does not function)
Re-dye leather seats
New engine mounts
New shocks/springs all round
New window reg/motor in passenger door
Wheel refurb
5 new tyres
Chips in original windscreen repaired plus polished
New bushes where necessary
New battery
New bonnet pad
Replace all interior wood (faded)

Once I have sold my 190 I'll start with these jobs but I know it's going to be an expensive passtime. That's why it's so important to pick up a car which is at least solid to start with.

Good luck with your's Derin. I know you will bring it up to a VERY high standard.

Time for a progress report I think :P

Car has had a major service at my local MB specialist. It's had the following:

* All fluids/filters replaced
* New Dizzy cap & Rotor
* New Coil
* New HT leads
* New rear discs and pads
* New steering damper
* New V belt
* New wiper blades for windscreen & lights
* New Bosch Battery

I was supposed to be going away this week but it was cancelled. I decided to have the days off work to begin work on the interior and body. After two solid days (7am til 7pm) I have made some improvement and took some pics tonight before the sun went down.

I spend a whole day on the interior removing as much carpet as poss. I used Groom and a scrubbing brush/cloths to get the carpets looking nice and also Groom on the door cards etc. The Leather I have treated with Leather Forever,

On the exterior I used a clay bar followed by AG Ultra Deep Shine polish and finished off Bilt Hamber Auto Balm.

Jobs still to do are:

* Sort out new grille insert and chrome strips
* Drivers door adjusted (somehow) as it has dropped slightly
* Remove passenger doorcard to lube window mechanism
* Wheels refurbed
* New tyres
* 4-wheel alignment
* Fix the noisy pump which sits next to glove compartment
* Replace wood gear surround as cracked
* Bonnet pad
* Fix issue with front seats taking ages to lock (suspect faulty vacuum pump or leak)
* Get some of the leather re-dyed
* New rear bumper insert
* Plus loads more...

The only serious problem so far is that one of the rear number plate screws has sheered off. I guess I'm going to need to drill it out.

Thanks mate,

It's still a bit rough round the edges (mainly interior), but it's getting there.

I'm shattered after a day of polishing and waxing.

Thanks very much Stu,

They are really lovely but I'd keep the 126 as they are such suberb cars.

I really love the M103 3.0. It's just sooo smooth but with plenty of power when you want it. Suits the car perfectly.

I must admit being surprised by the handling. It's almost as good as the Sportline 190 I had (but without the severly compromised ride). It really turns-in nicely and has loads of grip.

Looking really lovely, Gary!!! :wub:

One of the number plate screws sheered off on me too! FFS!

With one thing and another progress on mine has slowed right down of late.... :-/

Seeing yours gives me some new impetus now though!

Thanks mate,

I don't understand why people never lubricate the screw threads which are open to the elements. I did this when I first got my 190 and the screws have always been easy to remove.

I drilled the screw out today but also ruined the thread in the process. The new screw does bite a bit but easily pulls out. Any ideas how I can cure that?

Glad I have give you some much needed impetus. You are looking to achieve a far superior standard than mine so need to be patient.

You could re-tap the metal that the screw goes into if you have a re-tapping tool?

Thanks...I've also been side-lined by another project....now finished! Might get pics up tonight! ;)

Think I can see why you got side tracked :D

Didn't know you could get a re-tapping tool? Any idea where they are available?

Superb, a joy to look at!.

Can I presume this W107 didn't arrive in that condition, wouldn't be any fun for you if it was. :D If so the before photo's are just as appealing.

I've been quite busy with the CE. Having now sold the 190 I have some cash to invest further in the coupe.

So far I have replaced the rear bumper impact strip, grille insert/stips, new tyres, wheels refurbed and new front springs (the old ones were saggy). New ARB bushes also fitted.

Still got some issues to sort. The front seat backs are not locking as they should and I have a recurring ATF leak. New seals were fitted to one pipe but the leak has returned. In addition there is sometimes a groan noise comming from the stearing when reversing and steering. I'm thinking ball joints? MOT time in 10 days so I'm a bit nervous about that (especially with the seat back problem)

Enjoying ownership very much though.

Thanks mate.

Unfortunately mine don't lock when the doors are shut and the engine is running.

I've had both seats out this weekend and can find no faults there. The hoses comming from under the carpet are not supplying the vaccum though (I disconnected them and put my finger over whilst doors were shut/engine running).

The system works intermittantly though, so hopefully something not too complex wrong.

Thanks again.
