After 22 odd years the original AC stopped working. I thought surely it was low on freon gas, but after connecting guages, the truth results. The system is holding the gas well; no leaks. However, there is no pressure differential when the compresor is running; a larger concern. It is possible the AC clutch is slipping, but it is definately clicking when the control is engaged. Unfortunately, it seems like the compresor is turning, although I see the pully turn, I have not verified the shaft is actually locked and turning. Question: If I have to buy a new compressor from MB, will it be the exact same, direct fit, or is it going to be some type of conversion project, where they have to change out the whole system? |

This might sound silly but Kwik-Fit do a money-back guarantee if they can't make your A/C run cooler, so it might be worth getting them to recharge it? At best, the recharge will do the job (despite your pressure checks) and at worst it won't do anything and they won't charge you for the job... |

Great idea but Charles is in the States If you need a rebuild it shouldn't be expensive hopefully . None of my air-cons work . In fact very few of ours work as they are used so infrequently Damn cold today . Jeremy |

Oops! Sorry about that, didn't realise Charles was across the pond ![]() On the plus side, at least that means it should be easier to get hold of a compressor, and probably cheaper than here too, where they cost about £400 if I remember right! |

Thanks for the replies. I wish there was a Kwit fit here. I will price a compressor here. HOW BAD COULD IT BE? I shouldn't ask LOL |
