Hi, Looking for some opinions/advice.... I've got a LongLife stainless steel backbox that I had made for it a while back and it's getting replaced next week as it's cracked (lasted 6 years to be fair and they are doing it without question) but my question is... should I remove the centre box and run straight through to the back box??? He said that he could chop it where the exhaust goes from 2 pipes to 1 pipe and run it straight through to the back box or have a Y junction running into 2 pipes with an H in the middle.... Is there a chance that I'll lose power? Is there a chance that I'll gain power?? Has anyone done this? How much louder will it get?? I quite like the sound it makes now... very similar to standard. When I had the backbox swapped out from standard rusty one I had the stainless one rebuilt as a copy of the orginal so it's not loud or anything... What do you people think?????

See if he can make it so the original can be bolted back on for MOTs as it will possibly fail with only 1 silencer! If he is putting an 'H' piece in it should retain a certain amount of back pressure required, however O2 sensors if fitted may send wrong signals back to ECUs etc. Don't take this as gospel as i haven't owned a 16v to know the systems on it, just going from experience of previous mods i've done on other makes!

Thanks. Has anyone here actually had a straight through exhaust fitted to their 16 Valve?? Is it stupidly noisy or does it sound good??? |

Sounds like a bag of spanners being rattled in a big echo shed.

hi cossie, when i stripped my rear end out i cut the exhaust just before the subframe because the rust had welded the exhaust on and wouldn,t pull apart so after i had the suspension sorted i drove it home then wen,t to exhaust shop to get the last bit of the exhaust sorted with a remus back box no power gain and was to quiet for me so i cut the front and middle out and put a cherry bomb where the first exhaust is with a 2/12 stright through to the back box sounds nice to me, but each to there own some will say it to loud but i like it no loss or gain in power in anything iv,e tried though just sounds better to me i,ll take a video of the underside and give it a run if you want to hear what it sounds like, got a 2.5 also dan |

Thanks Dan, I appreciate that the sound specifically is an opinion thing but I'd be interested to see what you've had done... I'm in tomorrow morning to get the back box replaced (on warranty) and while I'm there I have pretty much decided to cut the centre box out and run it straight through on twin pipes with an H... Really looking forward to it now... the car is running nicely and I've spent a small fortune on it getting it sorted for it's pilgramage to the 'ring' so it'll be lovely when it's done. I'll get some pics and post it all up before the weekend... but very interested to see what you got on video... Cheers J |

Sounds like a bag of spanners being rattled in a big echo shed. [/quote]Actually it sounds lovely with a nice burble at the low end. I've kept the front and back box and just chopped out the centre one and I'm really happy... It's not too loud so when you're on the motorway it's still fine.... Chuffed to bits
