1.8 manual 1991 My diff has a lot of backlash and I would like to know if it is possible to overhaul it. I work for an agricultural engineering company and we have some good mechanics who can strip and re-build tractor diffs gearboxes etc can it be done DIY.... |

Hi, Its quite simple for an Open Diff. Bit more involved with a Slipper. New Bearings and shims etc, reset the backlash, and you would be good to go. With the access to the tools and colleagues you have then it would be quite straight forward. With all the parts ready, then a couple of hours would do it. Regards, The Gorilla. |

I tried to get my ASD diff rebuilt, but even Euro Car Care in Farcet, who are known to rebuild open diffs could not do it. Ram who is the owner, told me it would be £400 (less for me) for a rebuild of an open diff. Try him, he is abrupt/rude but he could do it. I know him though family, so feel i am able to comment. A diff rebuild is a specialist trade, open diffs are ten-a-penny so you could try it yourself, but once you factor in parts/removal/time/damaged knuckles leaving it to the "pros" makes sense.
