My 86 2.5 190D has a very noisy diff. Although it does not have ABS will an ABS diff fit as a replacement? Cheers, Jonathan. |

Yes the difference on an ABS diff is the hole for the sensor and the reluctor ring on the pinion shaft. |

Hello there, think i can help you. I have a 190e had a very noisy diff, normally the output seals wear and the oil leaks out. The noise comes from the gears not being in alighnment as there will be some slight wear in the bearings. I replaced with a diff from a car that had ABS mine didn't have ABS. The only difference is the Diff with ABS will have a sensor on the top of the unit. The diff is exactly the same unit and will work perfectly. I received mine from a breakers with the wires cut from the sensor. If you are going to replace with a second hand diff you will be advised to replace the seals all of them as you do not want to have to take it out again to replace them if they leak. If you need any advice on taking out the old one and replacing be in touch as i have done the job about a year ago and all is well. |

Also you cannot tell if the replacement diff is worn or not from looking inside, or from turning it over ! unless it really is knacked big time. The one i replaced does have a very slight wine in fifth gear at 45mph up till 55mph hardly any noise but it is there but i can live with that small amount of wine can hardly hear it and my passengers don't know. |
