Could this be the cleanest M102 engine in the country? I think it is. What do you think?

W124: belongs to a Mercedes-Benz Club national concours winner. You should see his other cars!

it looks fantastic so i agree...

tho i dont mean to be picky but the engine bay looks new, all except for the expansion tank, weather he's tried the vinegar trick i dunno but a new one is less than £30 and the engine bay would look like it has never been used! B)

Those concours boys are crazy. I went to watch an event once and I am sure they must all have OCD. Most arrived at least one day before the judging to give them 24hrs to clean/polish their cars. Some even trailered their cars to the event to stop flies or stone chips causing problems if they drove them.

The winner was a 70's E type, which was in far better condition than when it left the factory. Most BL workers would never have recognised it as one of theirs. I respect them for all the elbow grease and graft but it would not be my bag !

Nice car, for the MB club event above you must drive the car there, no trailers allowed. B)

It's amazing what can be achieved with a bottle of fairy liquid and a toothbrush!!! lmao

Seriously though, that is one clean car. There must be some art to keeping it clean, let alone getting it that clean in the first place?

Nerds with OCD, its not my cup of tea. Although I have driven to a show with clingfilm on the front end to keep the flies off after waxing but only once.

all except for the expansion tank,

Pernicity of me I know, but as it's concourse car and with the firewall being intact, I'd replace the water tank. :D

Is that a W124 Saloon equipped with SLS?

Looks like an SLS fluid reservoir to me, so I guess so.

Re expansion tank colour: knowing the owner, who worked in a Mercedes service garage for 27 years before setting up his own independent service workshop, and knowing how meticulous he is about having everything just right, I'd say the expansion tank is exactly as it left the factory. If it wasn't, he'd have changed it.

Concours is all very well, but not for me. I like to keep my cars' engine bays clean, but not to that extent! This is good enough for me.....

I like that. For me, that's not overdone, in an over shiny concours way, just a nice fresh rolled out of the showroom standard.

Steve, I take it the owner is Neville? I remember reading about this car in Merc enthusiast. Take it from me, if my numbers come up tonight, my 2.6 is going for a looong holiday down to his garage!
