Hey all!
Well, through Steve (twopointsix), I got invited to show my car on the MB club stand at today's classic car show at York racecourse. Yes, my car... (obviously they'd never seen it!)

So it was given a spiv up, and it didn't look too bad...

Also attending were Steve with his very clean 200k miler LPG equipped 2.6 and Dan (Namibia 3) with his lovely 2.0 manual. Simon (Barnesey 190e) also showed up, but despite much persuasion from us, didn't have his lovely LE on show. So, a few guys from the forum infiltrating the MB club! Lovely.

Hmm, would you buy a second hand 190 from any of these shifty characters? (myself, Dan and Steve...)

Myself and Dan were made very welcome considering we werent members (yet) and they put on a hell of a show with a huge turnout of Mercs. A very encouraging amount of 190s on show as well, both on the stand and in the show itself.

So, a few pics from the day. These are the ones the wife took, from the stand and some of the other 190s at the show, as the computer won't let me upload mine yet! So consider this part 1, and I'll get mine on later. Hope ya like...

I think my car had the best stand pass number,

A very good mix of Mercedes' finest on show,

Oh, and this car just made me go OOOFFFFF!. a super rare Ponton cabriolet,

Posted Image

Ohh, you just would, wouldn't you....

Posted Image

And a lovely 190SL next to it,

Posted Image

And, onto the 190 content. (W201 that is!) Starting with mine...

Posted Image

And Dan's car, a beauty, as I'm sure we all agree... Posted Image

And that's the lot for now, more to follow!

The Missus says cheers!

I've managed to get a few more pics uploaded, so carrying on from the first post, with 190 content from the MB club stand,

Dan's car,

Steve's 2.6,

This Smoke silver 2.0 was just amazing. Like new. No, better than new. Every metal bit under the bonnet was polished by hand!

I'm quite liking Ivory as a 190 colour right now, especially with colour coded saccos. This one had fresh paint and a nice ride height. Just crying out for a set of sportline 15 holes. Nice oxblood interior which went beautifully with the exterior,

And later on, this beast arrived. Starting with a stored for 10 years bog standard 2.6 pre-facelift, the owner has slowly built it intoa 3.2 AMG replica. Apart from the engine 'only' being a 3.0, everything else, suspension, running gear, brakes, exhaust was AMG. beautiful retrimmed 4 seat interior too, with genuine AMG clocks. Sounded like thunder too!

And later on, this turned up. OOOOOFFFF! again...

Posted Image
Posted Image

And in the show itself, there a few more 190s to be seen. I belive this valver belongs to maninblackcos. Nice car,

White 8 valvers seemed to be out in force...

A good day for my car as well. Thanks to Steve, I now have a good replacement radiator to replace my slightly leaky one, and a set of 4 excellent condition 2.6 sportline springs. All very reasonably priced, and a gent to deal with!

A good day all in all. Good company, a superb selection of cars from all eras, and the most 190s I've seen at a show! I think the classic car scene is starting to take notice! I'll definitely be back next year, and I'd recommend it to anyone with a love of old cars.

Andy, that's some show of Mercedes cars and it's great to see so many nice W201's.

Steve (twopointsix) is definetly a man worth knowing :D

I love the AMG replica, it really looks superb.

Did you get any info on the EVO 1?

Great photos Andy and thank you for the positive mention, Michael.

It was a good day out. As always at this event, some very friendly like-minded people, an excellent display of fine Mercedes of all ages, shapes and sizes on the Mercedes-Benz Club stand - a real treat for any Mercedes enthusiast. It was good to finally meet up with Andyboro who fretted beforehand (unnecessarily) about whether his recent aquisition would be of the required standard. It definitely was! It matters not a jot to the Club what you turn up in, as long as it's a Mercedes.

When I arrived in York, after a three hour drive through some nasty rain and dirty country roads, I didn't bother to clean my car for display (I'd already done it the day before). I didn't see much point as I was driving to Scotland after the show and the weather forecast for later in the day was for gales and torrential rain - which for once was accurate. Hence my car was probably the only car on the Club stand (out of more than 60) which needed a really good wipe down. Net result, I won a prize of a Meguilars car cleaning kit - I didn't even know I'd entered into anything! Obviously the judge had a sense of humour. Dan won a prize and he wasn't even a Club member! (Although he's subsequently joined). Andy's missus is reputedly buying him a year's membership as a Christmas present. Not quite sure how she'll wrap it or get it into his stocking.........

My car was missing it's three pointed bonnet star as some local scrote had wrenched it out a few weeks before and I wasn't going to give him the opportunity to do it again too soon. I've since fitted a replacement in the hope he won't come back.

So, if anyone's in doubt about joining the Mercedes-Benz Club, don't hesitate. It's the best £30 I spend all year.

Joining information and a list of benefits (there are many) at www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk

No apologies for the plug!

I'd like to second what twopointsix has said, Club days are a great chance to meet like minded people who enjoy all shapes and forms of the MB brand (members or no). I'd also concur that the membership fee has been saved be me anyway in MB parts dept. many times over. :$
