Well as most of you on here know I had my 300D stolen the weekend before last. I was dealt a bigger blow when I had lost my storage for my first ever merc.
I have been busy since thursday trying to clear out the yard where it was stored so that I could try and find another home for it.
Its not in a driveable condition as its been in storage for about 7-8 years. I bought this beaut back in 2003 from a gentleman up in Barnet after seeing an advert in the Loot. The gentleman was emigrating to South Africa and had to CE's, this one and a W123 one. He offered them both to me a rock bottom price but I just wanted this one. Watching my uncle drive this home back along the A406 as I followed In his 300 24v was such a sight and made me even more desperate to get into the drivers seat. Once back home I took her for a spin with a few family members and friends and all I kept getting was keen stares and people at the lights and petrol stations saying " Nice car".

Here she is in her current state

after Pulling her out of her resting place

in the yard all clear of other vehicles, trying to fuel and start her up

at work on staurday hanging new exhaust hanger doughnuts
Posted Image

Sorting the fuel leak , changing all the old rubber fuel hoses and decanting the tank of stale petrol, stale petrol sure does smell
Posted Image

Cold start valve removed after the inlet manifold caught fire trying to fire her up, I nearly went up in flames as i was doused in petrol
Posted Image

One broken Cold start valve, bosch part number, not made anymore by them and its car specific not found on any other models
ring MB colindale special order from Germany £182plus VAT F*ck that

Next step is to get a CSV or repair the old one if i have to. Get her cleaned inside and out, hang up the remaining 2 exhaust rubbers and run her through an MOT.

I never thought it was it good condition. As far as I remember, you said that it is a rust bucket. It seems far better than that.

It was a a real busy few days, One thing i can tell you pras It is one heavy beast, needs at least 4 to 6 blokes pushing it to get it moving.
We had a forklift and a rope so was a less laborious. There are some rusty spots and the majority of the underneath seems pretty sound. just more rust around the rear valance, headlights, bonnet. This will be my new project for the winter the 3.0 conversion has to go on the backburner.

Need some good dry weather to get it washed and cleaned up. I wanted to wash it this weekend but unfortunately the car caught fire as I tried to turn her over with brake cleaner in the inlet.

My other 280CE is far more rustier than this beaut. Should come down and gimme a hand giving her a hose down

I will do Stu, as long as I dont get set on fire trying to start her up lmao
The whole weekend has been busy, tiring and eventful to say the least. Being on fire was not a part of the plan.
I have had enough of the smell of stale petrol, its just horrible , i cant compare it with anything else.

Next update will be a washed and gleaming CE hopefully

Yes, it would be advisable to not set yourself on fire

I remember trying to get an ols Saab running years ago and having to drain and flush out all the stale fuel. Nasty stuff :X
I poured some petrol down the carb to get it running and the fecker blew back with an almighty bang. I ended up with singed eyebrows and hair lmao

Well short and simple, time and other commitments were not on my side plus I had lost numerous storages along the way this being the last one.
the car wasnt concourse when I bought it, but it was rusty in the same places, only thing is there is more greenery than a garden centre on it.

The woodlouse need a change of address on the V5 now lmao

I used to have one of those! Happy memories, apart from the worn valve guides. It was the same colour, too (I think). It looks all there - what a fine project.

The nice thing about them is that they are relatively simple and unobtrusive (until you start generating a smoke screen). And they go a bit, iirc...

Don't tell me you don't have H & S fire extinguishers in your building ? lmao

A garden hose will do otherwise ....... ;)

Progress Update

Had a new CSV come in the post from Mercedes John at a very afordable price, Top bloke.
Cleaned it with some brake cleaner and connected it back up. Cranked the old girl up and she kept blowing back.
Eventually after a few sprays of brake cleaner down the inlet she fired up and then she went on to smoke as she was running
and then she was revving up like a crazy mofo on drugs. had to turn it off as the industrial estate was getting polluted with smoke.

I started her up again and got her in gear and went for a brief spin around our estate before having to turn her off due to the high crazy revving.
Brakes dont seem to clever and a lot of rust and daylight coming thru the drivers floor pan.
I Hope to give her a good wash tomorrow if the weather holds out.
