![]() A few weeks ago i noticed my cooling fan was noisey and when I looked at it anr roteded it by hand it looked/felt siezed/ stiff. so orded a new Fan Clutch (FC). Yesterday I went to replace the FC, and once the front was stripped rad out etc. I found that the FC is okay and it is the pully that is the problem. In fact the fan was very close to hitting the waterpump pulley. with hindsite i should of removed the rad first before i ordered the FC. but hey-ho! Questions: 1. What is the part called? 2. Is it just a bearing holder or does it pump water (2nd water pump)?. What am I going to find behind it ? Will it need a gasket? 3. Best place to get one (is it a common part to all M103 engines or are there differances) . Bonus Question: I have A/C the second A/C rad in picture can this be removed without upsetting (disconnecting) the A/C - or is it easier just to work around it? Help please. Time to revive an old thread! This just happened to my 91 190E. So far it has been a train wreck... There was no compromise with the 8mm bolt that holds the clutch to the bearing bracket. I removed the ac condensor and radiator to get to it. Now that I had access, I stripped the head of the bolt. Great. So at this point I was stuck, I started removing the bolts that held the bracket to the motor. I could get to all but the lower right one. After a lot of choice words and bloody knuckles, the bracket just broke. I was able to remove the bracket w/clutch still attached and now had access to put a normal tool on the remaining bolt. I tore up just about every piece of the fan asembly trying to get it off. I was able to buy all new parts for not too high of a price, the brand name is Replacement parts from Autohauz. New fanclutch, bearing bracket, fan clutch pulley, idler pulley and 8mm fan bolt was about $130.The condition of the ball bearings was the same as in your picture, out of the bearing groove and a few were awol. The pulley had wobbled so much it was scratching the crank pulley and balancer, just like in your photo. I had just replaced the radiator so I wanted to get this fixed before the assembly disintegrated and destroyed my new rad. The parts are all in and I am ready to rebuild, but I found some sort of sensor on the balancer that has definitely seen better days... I don't even recognize what it is. In your picture it is directly below the D'oh and has a wire going to it. Anybody have any idea what that is? I am ready to put my car back together, but I'd like to replace this while I have everything apart.
