Car starts up first time and idles fine auto 1.8 k reg but if the weather is rainy the car will start up and idle fine then if i drive it say for 20 mins if i park the car then try and start it the car will idle eraticlly this will continue untill either i give the car a blast then after a while it will be fine or if i park the car and re start the car a few hours later it will be fine for the rest of the day its been worse over the few days with all the rain im thinking of taking it down to the mechanic any idias what it might be it runs fine if the weather is warm hot Edited by smugla, Sun Apr 29, 2012 6:01 pm.

whats the condition of your ht leads ? could moisture be causing a damaged lead spark to earth perhaps? when was your dizzy cap and rotor last changed ? |

My old 2.0 used to be like that when it was wet , new leads and dizzy cap / rotor arm cured it . Jeremy |

thanks for the info sunny day today all is fine had a look at the leads and dizzy looks fine but moisture must be getting in so will take to mechanic when it gets really anoying or when it goes for a service im glad it dosent look to be the idle valve |

My car started doing this in a heavy downpour last week - It was definatly Moisture in the dizzy cap. Easily accesed and easily fixed, or replaced. The Dizzy cap feels like it needs replacing every few years on mine - It is not a hard job, even for a novice such as myself. |

Just changed these bits on my 2.0 auto. I have a handful of thumbs when it comes to DIY mechanics but even so I managed this first time - took 20min. Only tip I can offer is to pop the old leads off the distributor one at a time and replace with new. That way they stay in the correct order. |

Took the car to the mechanic today and he had a look at the dizzy cap and said its fooked hes gonna change it tommotrow and the rotar arm he said the leads are fine and spark test was fine |
