Holes in water pump?

Hi can anyone tell me what these two holes in my waterpump are for and why would they be leaking coolant? Do i need a new pump or can they just be tapped and plugged.
Care was leaking a very very tiny amount when i bought it so the other day i changed the pump gasket and put it back together. After this i didnt notice anymore leaks but after a 120 mile drive my coolant light came on and when i checked it was pouring water out of one of these holes. The one on the right hand side (when fitted and looking from the front).
Any ideas?

(Car is a 1989 carb and dizzy model incase this makes any difference.)

Yes the pump has a 'Laberinth' seal inside which is irripareable, when water/coolant comes out of the hole

your pump has 'given up the ghost', sorry to inform you that you need a new pump :(

You will notice that when you buy the new pump it will have a bit of tube from the hole, that is so you can affix a

bit of rubber/plastic tube to it to save a mess of coolant all over your engine bay next time the seal packs in. ;)

I think you might be best going for the originals from the Merc 'Stealership' then you will be getting the right ones with the correct 'Torque' strength.

They shouldn't cost the earth ;)
