Edit - I am a fool - I have left the original question (below) just so you can laugh at my foolishness.

In my deffence - The only bonnet I have ever known to do this has been a Tractor I drove for 12 years. A Tractor!
So, It seems (after to speaking to my dad, who laughed A LOT) that this is normal. So Mercs and tractors have this in common.

Original question / joke / evidence of my stupidity below:

I had to que in traffic today - In the rain. Well, I have just had a new rad + thermo so I was happy to see the temp sit slighty over 80c (and drop to 80 when in motion) - Great!

However - While I sat there watching the small beads of water flow from my polished bonnet I started to panic a little as it started to boil/steam from the surface.

Is this normal or not?

Thanks in advance, Phil.

Ha ha, I think all new to 190e owners that have been in Rainy Traffic have paniced atleast once throughout thier ownership...

I've always imagined the Under-Bonnett Insulation would remedy this, can anybody confirm?

My old 2 litre would do the same.
Nothing to worry about.

Remember the original under bonnet insulation doesn't cover the whole bonnet.

Cheers - I have spent MANY MANY hours in a 190 / c-class front seat during my life but that was when I was a child. Now 31 / 6ft.4in and the driver I can see the the bonnet! Fool.

I was happy with the car sitting at just above 80c (most cars I have had sit around 90c).

I have to say - even though it is normal for the car to do this I don't like it! AT ALL!

Having owned 2 Astras and 2 Vectras and having to buy around 6 or 7 water pumps in my time, seeing steam automatically gets my heart pounding! Not to mention the for-mentioned reminder of a tractor! I endeavour to solve this problem if it is possible and will not cause any ill effect - I wonder if it is of benefit to let the heat dissipate in this manner.

Easily solved, fit a full bonnet insulation from a 2.6.
