I'm going to say 'No' based on what I smelled when I removed mine, but I could be wrong.
Is there a visible leak anywhere around the intake side?

check all your fuel lines around the engine while running.

petrol smell could be over fuelling especially on cold start, drain some oil and sniff

bm's are famous for it ,the cause of most big ends failing or knocking when cold

I used to get a flood of petrol smeel when slowing after some steady motorway speeding. The smell stopped when I replaced the seals at the bases of the fuel injectors

I agree, examine your engine oil. you could have a leaking injector over-fueling, and thinning the oil by going into the piston rings. Does the oil smell like petrol?

Hi

is there any chance that the petrol odour that you can smell is actually residue from the blow by gases from the crankcase ventilation system?

Smell the oil separator on the rocker cover, if its the same odour, then you have your answer.

check the fuel pump at the rear ,just lever the cover down and look for stain , if so tighten the copper shimmed union
