is there any reason why i shouldnt fit my old back box where my cat used to be as my straight through exhaust is getting to much attention from the pigs?

Is your exhaust literally straight pipes from the manifold back to the tailpipes? No silencers or backbox at all? I guess you could put a backbox where the cat should be. Don't really see the point though, put a normal backbox on your existing system and see if the noise is where you want it to be. Or just fit the cat back on?

Regular back box might be too fat to replace the cat without losing clearance, even though your only loosing a few mm it will make a difference if you want to lower the car, Possibly source a slightly skinnier one from another model and fit it?
Also not sure, but the back box might not be designed for the temperatures at the front end of the exhaust system, maybe check if anyone else has done it but good luck with it!

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

You would want a resonator in that position wouldnt you ? Reduce the volume without effecting performance too much.

in order to effectively reduce the noise of an exhaust system with straight through boxes, the diameter of the perforated tube should be bigger than the diameter of the pipe.
So adding a box of the same diameter will do some noise reduction but one of a bigger diameter will reduce the noise a bit further. the bigger diameter will give a bit of bass tone as well.

It is worth checking magnaflow exhausts too as the quality of their products is very good.

Keep in mind though that ground clearance at the CAT area is not great so try to avoid anything that is more than 4".

Another idea is to find the resonator of a 16V downpipe and weld some flanges on it so as you can make it removable. A used one will do the job and may come free as well. BTW 16v resonator diameter is 2.15"

thanks for that mate. so your saying the size of the tube that runs through the resonator should be larger then the exhaust pipe dia

Yes but you cannot find that in many exhaust fabricators, but you can always make something bigger fit in with reducers.
In my system I use magnaflow straight through middle and back and the cores are 2.5" while the pipe in/out is 2.25"
