Engine start up issue

Hi there, I have a 1989 Mercedes-benz 190e 2.0 Auto :evo2: . I absolutely love it :driver: but I hope you can help with a problem I have. When the car has been left to stand for a while (overnight for example) and I start it up, it turns over and fires up straight away, but it'll struggle to maintain the revs, sounding rough and often stalling. The revs will bounce between 500 and 1000 rpm for around 10 secs before settling at 750 rpm. The car will then run perfectly. If I start the car from warm, it starts perfectly too. Do you have any ideas what this may be? I have had the fuel pressures checked overnight by an MB specialist and all is well, they even tuned the car, and runs much better, but it still hasn't cured the issue as I thought it might - no difference. In addition to this, the car had a full Service by MB independant specialist the other day, new spark plugs etc etc. but also No better. Hope you can help, Adam feckknows

Sounds like the CSV (cold start valve) is 'dicky'

Might be just a case of taking it out and cleaning it. ;)

When the engine is running, after warm up, grab one of the vacuum hoses under the inlet manifold and squeeze it in order to temporarily block it. If the idle speed changes then the air slide valve which controls air volume at start up is faulty. It's located on the right hand side of the cylinder head near the firewall, looking towards the windscreen. If you find that the valve is faulty , try squirting WD40 into the hose connection to clean the working surface of the valve.
