Hello everyone. Does anyone have any idea how to progress this? Engine will not start, sparking ok, seems to be no fuel getting through. The fuel pump is not running. No voltage to the terminals. I have noticed that with the battery earth lead off, ignition on. Connect the battery lead and a brief 12 volts appears on the fuel pump terminals, and then dies off immediately. The pump makes no noise, does not appear to kick in. I can’t think why the voltage to the fuel pump is only there for a moment, and then drops to zero. Any ideas?? mark.bigelow@btinternet.com |

that is correct. The Fuel Pump Relay allows charge for a few seconds but only continues if the engine turns (detected by the fly-wheel sensor). It sounds like the pump itself is broken but you might check by removing the FPR (located behind plastice shield, behind the battery, black, marked 'kickdown') and jumping the sockets that correspond to pins 30 and 87. You should hear the pump run continuously. |

same thing happened to a VW scirocco we used to have, carburettor though. seems the tank was full of crap and that all got sucked out when the petrol ran out and completely blocked the fuel filter. although if thats the case i guess it wouldn't have started for those 5 minutes. might be worth investigating anyway just in case. You might get more responses though if you started a new thread with your problem, it can get a bit messy with loads of problems on one thread. anyway, good luck with getting it to run again! |
