1989 2.0l carb model. After stupidly running out of fuel late last night my great missis went and got me a jerry can full of petrol. After putting it in car fired up straight away and reved fine for 10 secs or so then when i put it in gear it cut out as if it had run out again. When i went to restart it wouldnt start at all. turns over easy but not coming to life. Any ideas how / wot to check? |

Trick I have done in the past to start up a carb car is to take off the air filter and pour some fuel straight down the carb (not too much mind or it may catch fire). I would imagine you have an air lock in the fuel lines or the pump needs priming??? are any fuel filters blocked too as sometimes the last dregs in a fuel tank can bung up the works with dirt/rust. |

Crap in the fuel filter and lines, change/bypass the fuel filter. |

After taking off the fuel pipe from the carb and cranking the engine it squirted fuel into a jar. After reconecting pipe the car eventually coughed into life. Now although it runs its an absolute pig and realy hesitant but before it ran out it was spot on. ive traced the lines all way to the tank and cant find a filter. Its one continuous pipe from tank to pump mounted on engine block. Are they in the tank on a 1989 carb model?? |
