I have a 1991 petrol /manual 190e.The car was a'barn' fine so neglected for probably 8/9 years.Initally a problem with the pump and stale fuel replaced both together with fuel filter. It starts every time without fail. But run it up to is running temperature drive for about 500 mtrs it coughs a cuts out immediately. It will not start unless it's left for a few minutes, the longer its left the further it willl drive possibly another 500mtrs enough to get back home -this is the cycle. Replaced fuel relay, Coil Rotor arm. Anyone experienced the same? |

i'm having a similar problem with my 190. At 80 km/h or faster the car starts 'coughing' .. it slows down and i have to stop for 5 - 10 minutes before i can go on driving.. Now i don't even dare to drive out of the city. I wish i knew what the problem was. But so far all i've heard is that i have to get the engine checked or get rid of the car. |

A similar thing happened to my 2 litre , it turned out to be the fuel distributor , a q common problem on long stored cars , also happened to the Evo II I discovered which also hadn't been used for years . Jeremy |

Suspect the fuel filter and/or accumulator in the fuel tank. Do a fuel flow test ( disconnect fuel pipe return union at fuel pressure regulator and connect a hose to a container - remove the fuel pump relay and bridge the socket connectors, 30 and 87. AS THE FUEL PUMP RUNS carefully monitor the rate of flow - should be 1 litre in 40 seconds ). If the delivery is less than 1 litre in 40 seconds then Check: voltage at fuel pump - s/be11.5 volts or more strainer in the supply line at the fuel distributor is not blocked fuel lines for any pinching fuel accumulator by clamping off the leak line between the accumulator and the fuel suction hose ( under the tank). If the flow doesn't improve change the accumulator Replace fuel filter If the flow is still weak, replace the fuel pump. As you can see, all the above is concerned with establishing a fault connected with storage i.e. fuel tank grunge blocking up the pump/supply system. Good luck! |
