My engines been rattling for a little while at idle, I originally thought it was the exhaust heatsheild as its a light rattle like the exhaust was vibrating against something. Yesterday i took off the undertray to look at the exhaust but I noticed it was coming from the engine! The rattling only appears at idle and goes when revved. Does this sound like bottom end failure? Btw I run my car on veg. The oil appears to be ok, black but not sticky. I'll be changing it on saturday. Another problem ive just had is the tank strainer became blocked yesterday and the car wouldnt suck any fuel. So I swapped the inlet and return lines round to bypass the strainer. You may have seen my previous thread on a bit jerkyness at light throttle and when backing off the throttle slightly at low revs. Basically now the car feels like its holding back and jerking even when ive got my foot to the floor. Ive only just changed both fuel filters on saturday. Could this be a misfire or something to do with swapping the fuel lines round? Or even related to the bottom end? Please someone help, im at my wits end with this car and ive had it less than 2 months. Ive just found out ive got a hole in my floorpan and now my engine could be fubared. I spent 3 months looking around for a car like this and I thought i'd bought one that had been well looked after. but I keep finding new problems each week! I cant afford to replace it right now so fixing it is the only option ![]() |

The rattle could be the belt tensioner damper. The bushes can wear out causing them to rattle quite badly. |

Ok ive just had a second opinion from a mate whos now got me thinking its the centre box thats rattling. Im now certain it is. I think I was just thinking the worst and jumped to conclusions. I was really getting depressed about the whole car with one thing after another. Thanks for the reply though. |
