Hi All,
I am in need of a bit of help. Fräulein and I are over from Irelan heading for Silverstone with the 190 an the tent... My alternator is smoking. Can anyone give a bit of advice as to getting this sorted?

We are pretty stranded and if all else fails we will phone AA

Any help massively appreciated

Erm let me think, love guessing games. Socks, interesting book, bottle of Scotch, surprise......? oh, an auto electrician with a new alternator and toolkit and a "you leave it to me nd I'll sort it " chat line?
Am I getting on the right track?
Hey, if wishes were commands mate, no problem. ;) And Happy Birthday for tomorrow!!!
What's the latest with you now?

Haha, no scotch but check the rest!
Yes, an interesting evening. I will be missing out on a rainy night in Silverstone camp site.
I thought the binoculars would come in handier than this!
We could have camped in the garden outside the Days Inn!!
I met a lad was out driving his mums Fiat Punto who was waiting 4.5 hours to get towed back to Brum
These road trips always throw a few curve balls
I spent 7 hours valeting yesterday, the car hasn't looked this good in an age :)

Thanks for the replies. I found a place in Stoke on Trent on tinterweb called merx. I'll give them a bell in a.m.
It is 18miles away, I'm unsure as to whether the car will make it that far. I'll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. My pal in Glasgow advised to go for a Bosch replacement as there are a lot of poor brands on the market. He also said my alternater can most likely be repaired quite cheaply. Apparently they are well made and worth reconditioning

Thank you Oil burner, I have no way of getting there but if I was really stuck its a taxi ride away! At the moment I have a lad due here late afternoon with a Lucas replacement. It's gonna be £260 fitted in the carpark
Not too bad
If this happened in Ireland I would have access to my van and some tools and spares. All I have here is a phone!

That'd be Canned Heat for me 1968, also a song by Willie Nelson.
So glad to hear you are sorted, pity about the sh1te weather. I hear Silverstone is flooded. Is it still on?
One report of the camping area included the phrase"like Glastonbury......." :'(
