Hi everyone, I noticed i have my MOT this monday coming up, never had any problems, should sail through. But on looking around the old girl, i noticed there is oil wetness at the back of the diff. i know this is not MOT failure, but obviously needs attending to as its leaking oil, looks to me like a seal has perished. first of all:- Does anyone have a procedure/guide on how to remove the diff safely, i'm doing this on my own and would like to know how easy it is to do. If so.....how and how long would it take me to do. Many thanks all |

Quite a tough job on your own on a drive. Here is a link to the procedure LINK The whole rear subframe has to come out ! Alternatively you could simply give the diff a wipe and top up the oil For future reference, here is a link to the star manuals in the general tech section. I have the same problem I think. What oil is recommended and how is it topped up? I don't really want to remove the diff if it's a big job, so am happy to keep it clean and top up occasionally. |

Regarding Diff removal, the subframe can stay where it is. Replacing the seals though requires partial tear down from the back cover, Remove 2 circlipsand then pull the output shafts out and the 2 seals are accessible. For the pinion seal you have to remove the locknut with a 27mm bi-hex long socket, remove the prop flange and then the seal is accessible. When re-assembling though adjustment is needed to take the backlash. The oil used for the diff is 80W 90 |
