I need to get a new exhaust fitted and wondered if anyone's got any recommendations as to where to go in the south west/bristol? It's coming out pretty damn expensive (about 350 quid) and only a little more to get a full stainless system (450 quid). it's the cat that's the pricey bit and unfortunately I can't remove it as it's 1993. |

Get your exhaust gases checked without the cat. You may find it passes MOT without. |

I think the car still needs to have a cat for the mot if it left the factory with one, regardless of whether or not it has good emissions (post 92 cars only). I paid £250 for a full stainless system, and that included replacing the cat with a silencer. Proflow brand, based in Bromsgrove from memory.

Just back from kwik fit, confirmed a new middle and centre section required - £350.00 to you sir Not sure I can be bothered chasing down bits individually and then having to fit - any experience out there of kwik fit or other high street/chain exhausts? Are they all pretty much the same? Believe kwik fit offer a 3yr warranty on theirs. |

Probably worth considering a custom built stainless steel for circa £100 more and that will come with a lifetime guarantee. There is probably a supplier/fitter not too far away from you. I just got a quote for a full system for my coupe at £499 fitted. Should be a little less on a 190. Gary |

No no no. Do not under any circumstances use Kwik "OOOPS" They are the worse bunch of cowboys to go to. You car will go in for an exhaust and will later have to go back For other things they will have conveniently diagnosed as needing to be done. I mean the choice is yours. But personally speaking I wouldn't even get Free air for my tyres from them. IIRC Your in finchley, So there are tons of places that can fab up good exhausts You just need to know what you want, in terms of noise and tailpipes. |

From what I was told the 'if it left the factory with a cat it needs to keep one' is not true. The emission level that is acceptable is related to how it left the factory but that is about it. My 190 has always been way way under its emissions level so you may well get away with removing it. Others certainly have. |

Thanks all for your input Two factors influencing me 1) I want a standard look, so hidden tailpipe exit etc - possible with custom stainless? 2) likely to be selling the car this year, so cost is a factor |

The stainless steel pipes can be made to whatever design you choose. If you want it to be discreet (as I do) you can request that and they will mirror the factory design. Gary |

Thanks both - i don't scrimp on my cars so the 'budget' option doesn't feel right, but if i'm potentially selling towards end of year, it makes financial sense over a stainless. |
