A quick post about my new exhaust... I've had a stainless system built by Zorstec - a company in Shipley down the road from me. It's a very simple bit of kit - a tiny back and mid box. It's been mandrel bent and TIG welded. The whole thing is made of 304 grade steel. These things promise more power, but the car has changed in a way I didn't expect. I can now hold gears at lower revs - 1,400rpm in 4th wasn't possible without the whole car shaking before. Now it's fine. That's making climbing hills easier. I'm not screaming it up steep ones in 2nd so much. Downside is it's noisier around 2,000rpm. It drones... I may need to finish the job with a bit of soundproofing. If anyone has any experience of this, what deadening fabric to buy and where to put it, please let me know. Here's a pic - sadly the once-shiny pipes are now coated in road salt.

Find out if soundproofing your boot will help. An easy way to find out is to either cut an off cut of carpet and place it in the boot, and/ or a couple of Duvets in the boot will work, for a bit, then you can invest in that sound mat stuff on the inside of boot lid, sides etc. Edited by Rich27, Tue Mar 26, 2013 10:33 am.

Take out the rear seat base - fill the two compartments either side of the transmission tunnel with dense foam rubber. Always useful to remove it every once in a while to make sure there's no water getting in - the two drainage grommets in the wells can leak. You never know, you also might find a few euros down there. It's the first place they look in my local breaker's yard! |

Rhys - cheers Rich and twopointsix - ta for the ideas. I was thinking boot and under the seats would be the way to go. Duvet idea's a nice simple test... the risk is I'll cut corners and they'll stay there
