Hello for all you folks out here! i've been lurking around for some time.. i tought i should post my ride here. it might not fall into most of your's liking but there might be some pointers that you may want to find out about W201 chassis(trying to be mystic)

OK heres my ride.

For those who are like "thats cool i hope there is 16V in it!" im sorry to say there is not.. its 24V.

For those who noticed on the interior shot yes there is no Merc speedo in it. why? cause BMW gearbox don't run by wire so i had to change electronic speedo in and im runing it from Merc own diff from its ABS sensor.. and yes its calibrated and works like it should.

But thanks for your help during my project and im happy to help if you guys got some questions about my mods! ;)

Other than that.. upcoming spring there might be "more to come"

Nice. Did you buy a whole 325i/525i to make the conversion, or just the engine?
Did you have to custom-make any parts of the drivetrain, such as the Propshaft?

Custom mounts, custom gear shifter, custom 'wiring', custom prop shaft, custom clutch line. Start was E34 525i which has oil sump on front. (E36 has it in rear of the engine)

For list car had W124 front brakes(had 4piston ates, now W124 300E[12Valve], cause of the wheels), front swaybar(W124 500E), front hubs(W124 320CE). all new rear suspension parts[W201].

but the swap was made in less than 3weeks so its quite simple if you just do it :)

Some of the parts was cause of the road laws in finland. short example: if we want to tune up some car we need to have "the best parts that was in that model" so brakes, swaybars, springs, etc needs to be upgraded to best model that is 2.5-16V and if we do that we have to be in +20% power(not problem here) of the best model and +20% of the displacement(not problem here) and something like that.

If you want to know more how and why and what to do check out:

Full swap build.

That's a fantastic conversion. But I am slightly wondering why you didn't go for a bigger beamer engine, say a 3.0l? Given that that engine has only slightly more BHP that the four banger Mercedes/Cosworth engines, and even the M103 3.0l. Plus the extra weight from the massive BMW engine?

I wanted something cheap to run, easy to fix. M50 is prettymuch bulletproof if you just make sure there is oil and coolant in it.. and for the weight.. the M50+S5D-310Z gearbox was about 20kg lighter than the original 1.8+Automatic. so the car weights about 1220kg as it sits.

For this swap i was not after the HP as for the last pic i posted you might get the idea why i did this.. "to make sure the engine fits there" i got couple of these M50 engines sitting in my garage, plus some extras for the next chassis :$

But for idea, you guys can find so cheap M54B30 engines out there in UK you should do that swap.

I fitted EG Civic speedo in instrument cluster(cheap electronic speedo + samesize as merc original), you also could go for the W124 Electronic one if you want to have full oem look to it.

Then Dakota Digital SGI-5. Input signal from 1) gearbox speed sensor if gearbox has any? 2) abs-sensor signal(my merc has ABS Removed but the sensors fitted). If you cannot use either one. there is also a way to make this work from prop shaft, then you need to make trigger wheel + install sensor for you propshaft.

I love it! :)
So cool! I have an old (2000) 330i sitting in a garage that I was originally thinking of doing an engine swap with into a w201, but I thought it wouldn't be the 'right' thing to do to have a BMW engine in a Mercedes (or maybe you could argue it's the best of both worlds)!

Instead I think that engine swap will go into an E24 635CSi BMW!

If you find a place that will ship the crankshaft to the UK, I am sure one of us can help you with it. You can then use your own courier service to collect it for example...

For the crank i want it to be shipped from UK to Finland.. i bet there is couriers that will ship them, i just bought E60 530d Prop shaft from uk and the shipping was 28£, so if you know some breaker that has BMW M52B28 crank sitting around just tell me where to pay(paypal) to get it shipped here :)

I already bought a w124 electronic speedo, but i was wondering how exactly to control it and how to calibrate that.

the dakota digital is the key i was missing. thanks :)
