Hello, so I sorted the starting issue...but now I have a lead between the injector and the head. I can see bubbles of air and diesel coming out....So you think I have to replace the nozzle plate? or it is not tight enough? Apparently a special socket is required.... Any ideas or help? Someone done this before? Here are the pictures: ![]() windows screenshot ![]() free upload pictures Thanks. |

Are you sure it's not just some diesel or steam "boiling" off? It's unlikely to be diesel leaking from the combustion chamber. If in doubt do a compression test. If there's an air leak(I'd be surprised but I suppose it's possible) it should show up, but I would just drive it and see how it goes for the time being. |

I think the socket is £8-12 quid off eBay was for my w202 om605 engine don't think the 190s would have a different injector size |

Well it does it from cold...so I don't think diesel is boiling .... ok, the stop pipe at the end is leaking a bit...but I am seeing bubbles from the bottom...and the more I rev the engine...the more bubbles appear and the stronger they get..... Does it mean serious trouble guys? Edited by tallman, Sun Nov 24, 2013 5:40 pm.

Isn't that the return pipe (which should take excess fuel back to tank)? Looks like someone's cut the rubber pipe off and capped it. It shouldn't be like that. I think what you're seeing is diesel being shook up by the vibrations, and the more you rev it the more it leaks through the return pipe. I don't think there's a leak through the injector thread but you need to repair the return pipe. Are they all like that? Edited by eagle3, Sun Nov 24, 2013 6:22 pm.

Have a read of these threads for info on leaking injectors, socket size needed etc http://mercedes-190.co.uk/search/?c=1&type=topic&sort=desc&forum%5B%5D=-1&s_m=1&s_d=1&s_y=2005&e_m=12&e_d=28&e_y=2012&q=Diesel+Injector&x=31&y=10 |

The simplest explanation is that the injectors weren't torqued correctly, or the threads were dirty. Easy enough. The seals could also be bad, but more likely there were carbon deposits at the bottom of the chamber before the seals were dropped in. What you need to do is to remove the injector and seal, ream out the prechamber (there's a special tool for this, too), and reassemble with a new seal. If this doesn't fix it, the prechamber may have a crack, which would require yet another couple of tools to replace. BTW, the injector just requires a deep 27mm socket. You can get one from anywhere automotive tools are sold. BTW, you aren't actually looking at the bottom of the injector..that's a plastic guide that fits between the prechamber and the injector, it's supposed to keep dirt from falling in. You've obviously not worked on Mercedes Diesels. Each injector has two return ports, they are daisy chained together. The last injector ends the chain, and one port is plugged. The first injector drains back to the fuel filter. Edited by mxfrank, Sun Nov 24, 2013 7:10 pm.

OK yes I can see the other pipe now. I thought there was only one return pipe on the first injector(I can't see the point of having two). Sorry for barking up the wrong tree. I had to go and look under the bonnet of my C15 and of course you're right, they all have two returns. I don't know where I got that idea. The one that's capped at the end shouldn't be leaking though. Edited by eagle3, Sun Nov 24, 2013 7:37 pm.

If cleaning and replacing the injector washer doesn't fix it then it's possible that the combustion gasses are leaking past the prechamber seal, not the injector seal, the fuel leaking from a pipe is now making the combustion gas leak visible. A small leak shouldn't affect the running of the engine and seems quite common on these engines. I have the same problem with mine, bought a prechamber ring socket off ebay to have a go fixing it but it was badly made and did not fit, haven't bothered with it since other than to replace the leak off pipes. |

Hi Guys, I have just replaced the washer in one of my injectors , problem is I forgot which way it went in, from the diagram above I think I may have put mine in the other way up . Would it make any difference ? The car has started okay but I haven't taken it a run yet. I did spend some time trying to work out which way it went and I felt the injector sat into the washer properly . |

Update: No leak guys...it was fuel boiling off after I replaced the delivery seals on the pump...I had to take out the pipe on the injector...therefore fuel did flow in.... :-) |

Well not entirely..I thought it was worth waiting a day or so in case it was just that. Is that end return still leaking? |
