My name is Deepak and tonight, Matthew, I am going to be a new member of this Mercedes 190 forum!

Anyway, enough stars in their eyes...

I am Deepak and I have recently bought a nice 1990 190e 2.0 petrol, auto - of course, grey with a sportline suspension kit. I'll try and get photos up soon.

The 190 wasn't a long term plan/want of mine, I mean always admired the older Mercedes for their reliability and quality mechanics, but they weren't really my style and I thought they were far too expensive. But I needed an auto, and all these "newer" cars all have new complicated boxes that I wouldn't be able to touch or carry out my own maintenance on, so I started at looking at older models... And it turned out that a 190 was FAR cheaper than anything else to insure (Classic car insurance). So, I am now a very happy owner of my new car, it's style has definitely grown on me and it's a real pleasure to drive too.

A little about me. I'm an apprentice trained Peugeot Mechanic, so do all my own work on my cars and for others too. However, I retrained and am now an Aircraft Technician for BA looking after their A380 fleet.

I have an erratic auto history which involves:
205D - Never driven as the insurance was 10 times what I paid for the car
106
Mk1 Golf 1.5 - Rebuilt the engine and put a weber carb on
306 HDi - Shouldn't have sold it
Micra K11 hideous arctic white - Sold this for a profit
306 1.4 - Rejuvenated this car from a mossy heap.
ZX D Estate - Sold this for a profit too
306 GTi 6 - Rebuilt the engine and sprayed the engine bay - stolen recovered
306 GTi 6 - Plonked above engine in then broke the car for spares
ZX D with a Bosch pump - ran on veg oil
E46 318Ci Auto, MSport - Slush-O-matic
Mk4 Astra D - The most uncomfortable car I have ever driven
190E - Best one of the lot..??

Now I look at that list... I've wasted a lot of money! Haha! Not really, I've learned from every car. Especially the 306 GTi6 - worked quite a bit on these over the years. You can find my almost dormant account at 306gti6.com username 720puggti

So Yeah, that's me...

Hello and welcome
The 190 is a bit different to the 306 GTi 6

You'll find this forum a great resource if you do a lot of your own maintenance.
Best Regards,

Hiya and welcome deepak, I worked for a Peugeot dealership for a short while but then got a job at our local merc dealer, got into working on the 190 and was hooked. I'm sure your 190 will grow on you.

Thanks for all the replies guys and sorry about the delay in writing another post; I am definitely more of a lurker when it comes to joining online communities!

However, I want a 190 to learn on and take apart; I don't really want to use mine as a guinea pig! It doesn't have to be taxed or tested or even running; just the mechanics have to be there that is all. I've found getting stuck in and ripping a car to shreds is the best way to learn it all.

So if anyone is reading this who has something that meets the above description please get in contact.

If I do get hold of one, I'll make up a project thread about how it all comes apart along with write ups :)

Thanks
