Hey all, looking for a nice one to start me off (I can become obsessive)

Flexible on model and budget within reason but would like to find something known preferably for peace of mind.

Not worried about performance overly, standard is fine, love to see lots of history and something that has been loved.

I am in Cumbria but willing to travel for right car

Any ideas?

Dear All, I see there's a black 190d on ebay, anyone know this car? At 57 it's time to return to four wheels from two (from BMW R75/7 1978) and so I began looking this week. I've read the buyers guide (thankyou "Lewis 190E 2.5 16") and plan to inspect the car before bidding (it's in Mayfield Sussex) with a mechanic friend.

Also, I would started a separate thread on the subject of this particular car but I can't see how I'd do that. I've not used a forum before having joine this morning. Is there something I'm missing?

Hi and welcome, the car looks good and it's a fair price..if it's had a head gasket and the timing chain changed then go for it.

Thanks all, got car home today, ran like a dream bar the abs light came on last few miles but other than that it runs and drives spot on.

Well chuffed with it, but thinking I will put the original steels back on with the very nice and immaculate trims, as they are original and I reckon suit the car. better.

The old guy I bought it from said thats the original front grill as long as he had it (20+ years) but I though they were all fitted with the plain ones as standard. I actually prefer the "normal" grill better?

Hello and welcome ! Looks like you've found a good car there with quite a bit of history. Nice to hear you didn't inherit the Irish plate and the car is back on it's
'proper' one. Didn't he want to keep the grille too  If you have the wheelcovers that it's wearing in the eBay pictures then I think they are from an early C class not the original 190e ones. :driver:

The history behind the grille is worth researching, my '84 model had that same grille, but it was damaged beyond repair in an accident. I now have the standard grille... Pity we live a few thousand miles apart, I would swap for sure.

Oh yeah! Born and bred! Traced back to Cromwell's times. Nice to hear that you like it here, we depend heavily on our tourist industry so spreading the word is good. I spent many holidays in the Heart of England, Winchcombe, Cheltenham, Ross-on-Wye, and as far south as the Isle-of-Wight, lovely memories but as our currency is tied to the US Dollar it is a bit costly now. :(
