Soon to own a 190D and a 190E... engine swap question :)

I'm not a 190 owner yet.

I have a vast supply of veg oil and my Hilux is playing up so I'm considering a 2L 190D instead.

The thing is I can only find a mint 190e and a scrap 190D (scrap as in the chassis is rusted to hell).

So to the point, is an engine swap a viable option for me? Has anyone on here done it?

Cheers

Yes it is viable with a good Diesel engine. I have done it with both 2.0 and 2.5 Diesel engines but the 2.0 is easy to do as the diff and front springs are different on the 2.5. The fuel tank gauze has to be changed and the ignition switch.everything else is just remove and refit. The alternator wiring unplugs from the front of the fuse box and the glow plug wiring can be fitted without joining wires if the dashboard is removed.

Smokinmonkey - you'd be doing us a service if you did a thread on this job as you go along.
It would be interesting to see what you come up against.

Are both cars manual, or auto, or a mixture of both?

Here are the cars I'm considering. I know, it seems a shame to wreck the red one... :(

I don't think the final drive ratios are the same. Depends whether they're 4 or 5 speed boxes. If they're both 5 speed the 1.8's should be 3.64 and the 2.0 diesel's should be 3.91.

hi apart from some other things ,here we go each dif is atached to his meter (km or miles) you need to put the diff and instruments of the diesel on the gasoline one the box depends if you want 4 or 5 speed the 4 speed; tramsmision shaft is longer than the five one cause the size of the box are different, the clovers between the diff and shaft and shaft and box can be different size from diesel to gasolina dont know for sure but can be check it ,of course the diesel`s radiator is needed ;a little thing the wáter cover are diferent change that too ;battery are bigger in diesels too needsmore amps ;gasolina rev tach won`t work in the diesel

There are plenty of Diesel ones about - like the 2.5D in South Queensferry I posted about .

If he's coming over to Ayrshire to look at the Dundonald one , he'd be as well going to W Lothian for the 2.5D which is good to go .

Sounds like a lot of grief and not really worth the hassle I don't think. I'm sure you'll find a reasonable diesel if you're patient.
