Hi Just want to say hi, I have just bought a nice 92 190e 2 litre at a fair price of Ebay. When I went to collect it the owner was a self confessed DIY mechanic and proceeded to list all the things he has done to the car, including changing the gearbox or and filter and also replaced the track rod ends. I got in my pride and joy and drove away ok. I got onto a dual carriageway and had a very strange sensation, to speed 50 mph and steering floating everywhere . The gearbox does not want to shift and the engine is lacking power, even though it revs out in neutral. I will try to adjust the Bowen cable as the guy showed me where the gearbox economy adjustment was!!!! I am sure I will be a regular on the forum and just wanted to show my appreciation for some of the posts I have read. |

Sounds like you bought it "blind" without checking it out first. The vague steering could be due to the damper or tracking out either front or rear or just under-inflated tyres. Does it have an mot? Gearbox oil-change and filter might help, along with ignition parts. Difficult to say exactly..best of luck. |

Welcome to the forum. The steering issue sounds like tracking to me, I would be willing to bet he changed the track rod ends and didnt get the tracking done afterwards (which you should do). The 190 steering is a bit less direct than many cars due to it being recirculating ball but it shouldnt be that bad. I reckon you probably have a few easy fixes to do, but when you are feeling them all together at once it feels far worse. Do you know how long ago he did the track rods ? If it was a while back then you will be able to see uneven tyre wear if the tracking is out. |

Hi Thanks. I got the tracking done, adjusted the Bowen cable, changing better now but not perfect. Changed plugs, wires dist cap and rotor arm, bottle of cat clear , performance still flat, looked on forum and found the was a timing switch for different fuels, turned it to S and car running much better I just need to fine tune the gearbox somehow had it will be perfect , if you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks to all the members , I am happy with my car now |

Hello and welcome, change the gearbox oil and filter if it's not been done before and start from there, the 2lt car is no ball of fire either. |
