Hi again Paul, the plastic thing is the gearbox breather valve, similar to the one on top of the diff. |

Probably topped up by someone who doesn't know the correct procedure for checking the oil level. Oil should be up to temp and engine running. I overfilleed mine after fitting a new cooler pipe and it spewed it all out over the hot exhaust during a high speed run. Clouds of white smoke from the rear of the car

Hi I've just picked up gearbox sump gasket and new filter direct from the main merc dealer. it will be fitted on Monday. The leak is strange, when I got the car I checked the auto fluid when it was hot, and it was about 4mm above the max mark on the dipstick ? I thought that was alright, [ better more, than less ] idea. but when I've driven the car for a while. and parked the car at the end of the drive with the front of the car slightly raised on the incline . Front of the car about 8 inches above the rear. if I look underneath I can see transmission fluid dripping from around the sump area. but I cant slide under to see actually where from. so we are going to change the gasket and take it from there. but im sure it coming from a white plastic fitment slightly above the gasket seal on the right side.. ???

Hi Guys. Up-date on the leak thing.. it turns out it wasn't the auto gearbox sump leaking. yes there was a very slight drip, so we changed the gasket away seeing I had already bought it. the leak was caused by the Heater Control Valve Unit. this was leaking when up to temperature and must of been running onto the top of the gearbox and running down the side ? the unit only cost £16 direct from MB ?? and now the car shows no dips what so ever after parked on the drive overnight.. the car is booked in for a stage 2 MOP & WAX next Thursday... and get your wallets ready Has it will be put up for sale next weekend, has like I said in earlier post. I'm not going to get time to enjoy it. in fact it looks like I'm going to have to be away on work for 2 months to start in august. |
