2.5-16 refusing to start

Hi all, basically my 2.5-16 has been parked up for a few weeks without being started, I thought I'd give it a run for a bit as it had not been started for a while.
I turned ignition on and let the fuel pump prime and tried to start and got nothing, was turning over but not catching, I repeated this a few times until it started catching a bit, but it still wouldn't start properly, I left it a while and retried and then she started!
I left it a few mins to warm up and lifted the bonnet and revved directly by the throttle body and it seemed to be bogging down under revs, I left it for a while to get to temp and then got in and lightely put my foot on the accelerator and it cut out. Now it point blank refuses to start despite cranking over?

I read some other posts but couldn't really find what I was looking for. Despite all of this I have never had a problem with the car apart from burning a lot of oil...

Anyone know what it could be?

Cheers, Ross.

People mention, fuel relay, OVP, coil, fuel pump, cold start valve, or combination!

would always check distributor cap as a first resort. ovp and vacuum hoses to icv and afm rubber especially if a backfire has happened.

Fuel can't be more than 2 months old? Will have a good check over tomorrow and see if anything looks dodgy.

The distributor caps on these cars don't wear out: They can be in good condition one day and the next day they could disintegrate. ^o)
I've also learned, that if the AFM plate is sitting where it should be, the car will backfire and refuse to start.

Hope you get it sorted quickly. :D

Sorted it! I changed all the leads and distributor parts and cleaned the plugs (They were fairly new) went to start and got nothing at all, I took it all apart again and then back together as I thought I maybe did something wrong. I also gave that ovp relay a wobble, it felt very loose! But I tried to start and she fired up! So either there was a dodgy connection or something wasn't seated correctly on the dizzy...
But whatever it was, its sorted! For now!..
